Political analysts say such electoral gains are quietly changing the political landscape, increasing the number of black lawmakers adept at crossing color lines as well as the ranks of white voters who are familiar, and increasingly comfortable, with black political leadership.

In 2007, about 30 percent of the nation’s 622 black state legislators represented predominantly white districts, up from about 16 percent in 2001, according to data collected by the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, a research group based in Washington that has kept statistics on black elected officials for nearly 40 years.
Political scientists and local officials also point to an increase in the number of black mayors who represent predominantly white cities in places like Asheville, N.C., population 74,000, and Columbus, Ohio, population 748,000. According to a study conducted by Zoltan L. Hajnal, a political scientist at the University of California, San Diego, about 40 percent of Americans have lived in or near cities that have elected black mayors or in states with black governors.

In Congress, several black lawmakers now represent predominantly white districts, including Representatives Keith Ellison of Minnesota and Representative Emanuel Cleaver II of Missouri, Democrats who were elected in 2006 from districts that are more than 60 percent white.

In the 1980s, few black state legislators represented predominantly white districts, said David A. Bositis, the senior political analyst at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies who conducted the most recent study of black state legislators.
By 2001, that number stood at 92, according to Tyson King-Meadows and Thomas F. Schaller, political scientists at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, who analyzed statistics from the joint center and other sources. In 2007, the figure was 189, Mr. Bositis said.
About 45 percent of the black state lawmakers represent communities that are 35 percent to 40 percent black in states like Georgia, Indiana and North Carolina. But roughly a quarter represent communities where blacks make up 20 percent or less of the population, including districts in Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan and Tennessee.

What they’re not saying is that blacks vote for the black candidate and the white vote is generally split among several white candidates ensuring black victory. And for those white idiots who do elect a black, it is the first and last time they do so unless they live in NY or SF or the black is a Republican.

I think a lot of the reason for this is that these cities and districts have whites that are liberals. To add to an earlier article here at AR, liberal whites are flocking to central cities because they see that they’re good places for liberalism to win elections.

Is it that Whites are more comfortable with Black leadership, or is it that the White Ruling Elite have become so incompetent, so anti-white, so corrupt, that Black leadership provides a slim hope of change for the good? How can it get worse?
Think about how disconnected White leadership, for the most part, is in America. When was the last time you heard ANY White leadership make any comment or suggest any change that would benefit our country or benefit Whites?
Then combine the above with the brain washing of the ruled masses of White Men who have been cleansed to such a point they are ashamed of White contributions to the world, forgotten that White Men created and STILL sustain what is left of a modern society anywhere it still exist, and White Men STILL control the vast majority of all industry and progress EVERYWHERE in the world except maybe Japan, but Japan is heavily influenced.
So here we have the race, the people, the culture who built the greatest culture and progress in the history of mankind again having no political leadership to sustain that creation.
Let us always be mindful of the facts: The world is not copying African culture. The world is not trying to be like Chinese? The world is not knocking down the doors of Mexican culture. The world is not calling being more Arab progress. The world does not consider being Japanese as cool and something to be emulated. Progress is not returning to Indian culture. The whole world recognizes that to move forward one must act, dress, and think more like the West: that means think, act, and dress, more like the White Man. Ok, their idea of the White Man and White Woman.
Now what is peculiar is that as the rest of the world moves forward acting whiter as much as that is possible, the White Man at the same time is degrading himself with the hip hop mentality, the newfound “profundity of Chinese wisdom,” and the shedding of ALL concepts of White history and achievements.
In China even a simple school boy or girl can list the great achievements of the Chinese race. No blushing, no shame, no second guessing. Meanwhile the self-hating, skittish, insecure, ignorant masses of white boys and girls continue to wallow deeper and deeper in the cultural gutter of destruction.

Politics, over the past 40 years, has devolved into a mediocre profession. But when predominantly white districts fall for the charm of some black mayor wannabe, or other black politicans just to prove they’re not prejudice, they open the door to more blacks moving in. Then the insanity starts.
Next in these communities will be demands for affirmative action hires in every department, higher crime, pathetic city services, and cries of “racism” when things don’t go the way of the latest black whiner.

A good companion question might be to ask how many white legislators represent predominantly black districts. Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee is the only one who comes immediately to mind, and look what happened to him in his nasty primary race a few weeks ago.

Here were I live there is a case before the US supreme court right now. They gerrymandered a county voting district, to include a large chunk of voters, who live in a whole other county. Someone had the guts to take it to court. There had to be the idea of ‘helping blacks’ behind it somewhere for it to be that insane. That generally explains most ideas that are either insane or really stupid or both. In fact, it’s probably why the entire USA is so insane right now.

Blacks concern themselves only with things that effect blacks, and they’ll pursue those things no matter if the situation involves those of another nation so long as the population is black.
Only the most naive and foolish whites are taken in with black rhetoric, claiming to want to look out for all constituents, because blacks are one issue politicians and that one issue is race. The black race.

It is these kinds of whites that are greater enemies to us than even the militant non-whites themselves, and first, last, and always they’re about the most disgusting things that slither the face of the earth.

What they are failing to address here, is the party affiliations of any given district, among the white population. If a district is 60% to 80% white, but the whites in that district are utter fools (i.e., normal Democratic voters by about 35% to 45%) then if a primary goes to a black, he is likely to be elected. We all know these type of whites, the kind that whine and worry about racial issues and encroaching Marxism, but still hold dear to their hearts the concept that the Democrats are the “working man’s party” and will stick to the rich for them.
As P. Noctura points out above, it only takes 51% to win a general election; so add the 16+% or so of nonwhites who vote lockstep for the Democrats and the 35+% of whites in such districts and you get the magic 51% needed or better. Sometimes it even takes less, if other parties are competitive.
Moreover, districts are often redistricted so that nonwhite dominated ones are incorporating large areas that have heavily leaning Democratic white voters, and the Republican areas go to a more dominant white district not dependent on party preferences. That is how Republicans can come to upset certain “entrenched” white Democrats after all; the vote starts to split in their favor.

Now it is time to cut through the nonsense…..
US Senators were first popularly elected with the 1916 elections. Since then, only two states have had a black US Senator….Illinois and Massachusetts. During much of that history, there were NO black US Senators and at no time were there ever more than one black US Senator of the 100 member body.
Flip side….48 states have NEVER had a black US Senator.
Illinois has elected two black US Senators. One actually completed a term of office. The other (half-black) is running for president of the USA and has nearly all of the time he has served as US Senator. None of the black US Senators elected from Illinois have ever won re-election.
Massachusetts elected one black US Senator (a Republican) and he was re-elected for an additional term.
Does this seem to contradict the above article?

The claims of this article are stretching things a bit but on the other hand I’ve seen predominantly white cities elect black officials. That’s most disconcerting since it’s very rare for majority black cities to elect white officials. White officials are suspect, don’t understand nor can they make the right decisions of behalf of blacks according to the average black. If a white voter made those statements about black politicos there would be howls of “bigotry” and small mindedness from the msm and organized minority racists.
I believe whites feel open minded when they cross the color line in an election. They project their nutty, liberal mindset onto the non-white candidate only to have their interests betrayed by the black candidate who they irrationally believed was as aracial as they are.

I would vote for a Dr. Thomas Sowell, Dr.Walter Williams, Mr. Larry Elder, or a Mr. Shelby Steele for any office. To those who don’t know; they’re all black men.
These are probably the bravest men in America because they go against black tribalism with solid research and a mountain of common sense. They pay a price for it as well in the form of near constant threats and insults.

I don’t have a problem with whites electing black leaders, so long as they’re good leaders. According to the NCSL there are 7,382 state legislators in the country. 189, or about 2.6%, are blacks representing largely white districts - probably liberal white districts, not because only liberals would elect a black person but because blacks are mostly liberal.
But I do think there’s something to be said for the “death of civilization” meme. Blacks are winning in white districts not because black leaders have gotten much better, but because the white alternative has gotten much worse.

WASP’s comments are pretty much spot-on. What is curious about the white European races is that for the most part they seem content to stand by and watch their displacement by other cultures which don’t share their values and ethics, which indeed may be actively hostile to them. Certainly the most destructive, unproductive, and socially corrosive of these groups are the black Africans, wherever they’re found in substantial numbers. It’s hard to imagine any other advanced culturally and racially cohesive group allowing this to happen.

I just do not understand the White support for black politicians, from Obama on down. There have been enough blacks elected to positions of responsibility in this country for Whites to know what they will get: incompetence, cronyism, and crime plagued administrations. Where does one begin: the economic collapse of Detroit during Coleman Young’s profane administration, and the complete collapse of the City after Kwame Kilpatrick; the financial burden of $3.2 billion placed on Birmingham, AL by Mayor Bernard Kincaid’s cronys; Atlanta’s mayor Bill Campbell disbarred and sent to jail for theft and influence peddling; Rep. Wm Jefferson who stuffed almost $100,000 in bribe cash in his freezer; Mayor Ray Nagin, AWOL during Hurricane Katrina, scared and shaking in his protected hotel suite; Newark, NJ mayor Sharp James sent to jail for fraud and theft; Judge Alcee Hasting (now US representative) impeached by the US House of Representatives and removed from office for Fraud and Purjury; DC mayor Marion Berry sent to jail for drug use and possession; GA State Senator Ralph David Abernathy sent to jail for theft, forgery, and selling pardons for felons. The list is almost endless, yet the guilt-ridden whites cannot get enough of these thugs, thieves and incompetents, and history will eventually show that Barry Hussein is no different.

Black candidates are easier to manipulate and control as subordinates for their paymasters.
And of course they will be more likely to go with policies that are not in the interests of the majority of Americans, and certainly the interests of the majority white population.
White politicians on the other hand occasionally stray from the fold and actually dare to act in the national interest (instead of the interests of the globalists)
This is just a continuation of the oppression (I believe foreign in nature) we are living under.
A good example of this is the black congressman who was caught with $100,000 in cash in his freezer, and yet the traitor is still in office!

Having personally witnessed the organization in one of Obama’s inner-city political offices, I can tell you that we have woefully underestimated the organization of these blacks. If we don’t get our collective act together, it’s going to be over well before we even realize it, if it hasn’t already happened.
Last week, I decided to spy some of hype surrounding the Obama campaign by braving a trip to an inner-city campaign office. I was somewhat surprised. In this building that no one would dream ever housed anything other than drug activity, I saw a large room with several flat screen televisions tuned to the major American news outlets, i.e. Fox, CNN, MSNBC, and the local news stream, were constantly streaming in the background. Compared to the local McCain office and the Bush office, years ago, it looked like NASA control center. Near the entrance, an old woman sitting behind a computer, adorned like an Obama shrine, was greeting visitors as they arrived. The office was absolutely abuzz with activity. There was nary a white face in the room, save myself, possibly one other, a stunningly attractive young woman who appeared to be of Eastern European or Middle Eastern descent. There were to five or six identifiable Asians and Hispanics in an office nearly 50. The chatter was unnerving and deafening, but you sense a everyone was filtering for only the information they needed, and the office appeared to be running smoothly. At one point, someone yelled, “Sarah Palin is on TV!” The place erupted in laughter. One woman whispers to me, “That woman is a blessing. ‘Lourd!” She’s dumber than a box of crackers (I wondered if she was hinting at something else), but, lourd, she is a blessing.” At another point, an older black gentleman asked me if I wanted an Obama yard sign. I, politely declined, stating that I already had one. He smiled and took my arm and shook it with both hands. “You mus live over der in XXX {He was wrong but close}. Are you here to volunteer?” I declined, politely.
As I left, I saw a van full of young white college co-eds that arrived. Judging from their clothing, they definitely were upper class and private school educated. I felt an uncomfortable moment of suspicion, bordering on hatred, in the glance exchanged. A young professional-dressed black man, whom I hadn’t noticed while inside, came from building. He called to me, “Thank you for coming, sir!” then said, “You guys ready to canvass!” I had a sense that these co-eds who soon be knock at my door. It was clear who was orchestrating this operation, and some of us may be surprised.

Why exactly would you go out of your way to vote for any black, regardless of his political stripe? Is it to prove that you aren’t racist? Would it mean that diversity of race is a good thing?
I think not. I once voted for Alan Keyes in a primary because he was the best Republican candidate. He was certainly far better than the traitor serving in the White House now. Still, I had this nagging feeling that I was somehow congratulating myself for my color blindness.
That won’t happen again.

I wouldn’t put too much stock in this article.it’s just fear mongering. last year the black New Orleans city council became 95%white,after years of black majority on council.Nagin had to let some relatives go.And the black mayor of Atlanta fears she will lose all her perks (demographics,etc.) because of all the whites who are moving into the city.There’s hope for us yet.Now if we can only get affirmative Action reversed,since the blacks have advanced so much, they don’t need it anymore…..On second thought,maybe since the census has the whites in the minority by 2050…maybe we can use AA in the future for OUR gain.

If Obama wins this election there might be quite a political realignment in the offing. I think it will be very hard on white liberals who have supported blacks and hispanics who will now find that they are losing clout within the Democratic party. It will also be painfully obvious to the Republicans that chasing the mirage of the Black Conservative as well as the brown ones has been an abject failure.
A central flaw of George Bush’s (among many) was that when he invaded Iraq it allowed the left to organize against something. The only thing that unites the left is what they are againt not so much as what they are for. Had Bush fought back against Al-Quida and closed our borders to foreigners he would have been the hero of the ages. Instead he the goat.

Comfortable? I think not. Having African “leaders” does not inspire comfort. It makes me reach to guard my pocketbook. 2 things are at play here. 1st, the african is ALWAYS gonna get virtually 100% of the African vote, and at least 30% of the guilty white liberal vote. That is too often enough to push the unqualified charlatan over the top. 2nd, there’s the Public School system indoctrinating our youth that the African Village way of life (Communism) is the most righteous path to salvation. Does anyone get it yet, that blacks, be they achievers to be doctors, lawyer, or politicians, they will stab the white man in the back no matter what. All the whites get is blamed when they fail or something bad happens in their life. The whites, like me, have no one to blame,,,,except our government who allows our white race to lose ground and are overburdened by having to pay for the blacks, and other people who really don’t belong here in the first place. As for blacks in any part of our government…they are even more corrupt than any whiteman could ever be!! If they elect obama, (through ACORN help) our country will cease to be anything but a dumping ground for thieves, rapists, murderers, drug dealers ect. It is half way there now!!
