John Murtha Calls Western Pa. ‘Redneck’

More news stories on Anti-White Discrimination

WTAE-TV (Pittsburgh), October 21, 2008

U.S. Rep. John Murtha is calling many of the people who put him in office “rednecks.”

The news comes one week after Murtha claimed the area is racist, then apologized for that comment.

In explaining his comments about racism, Murtha, D-Johnstown, told WTAE Channel 4 Action News on Monday it’s difficult for many in the area to change. Murtha said that just five to 10 years ago the entire area was “redneck.”

Now Murtha said only certain segments of the population are holding on to those racist feelings.

{snip}

Murtha said the history of southwestern Pennsylvania is rife with racism.

“This whole area, years ago, was really redneck,” Murtha told Channel 4 Action News.

Murtha believes there is one segment of the population which is holding on to its racist beliefs and he said it’s difficult for them to change. Murtha said it may be even more difficult for them to vote for Sen. Barack Obama for president.

[Editor’s Note: Murtha’s earlier insults to the people who put him in office can be read here (two stories).]

How do you explain the response by the electorate to the comments of both John Murtha and Lindsy Gramham? Both these men have referred to their own constituents with slurs and yet both these guys are still in office.

What does it take to get white people to respond by voting these guys out of office? If there was any reason to point to there being no hope for whites to wake up, this has to be it. Are they not listening? Do they not care?

If you don’t know about Graham, here’s the video (It doesn’t speak well for McCain either):

We allow white comedians to denigrate our race.

We are the only race that aren’t allowed to be victims. It kind of makes me proud that we can rise above everything with no help what so ever.

Honestly, who keeps electing these idiots!!!

Posted by Douglas at 6:40 PM on October 21

To brain-dead leftoids like this 17-term (is that even legal?) fossil, a “redneck” is anybody who wouldn’t consider voting either for him OR for the Mulatto Messiah.

In which case, Rep. Murtha, I will happily let you brand ME a redneck, too. I’m not from PA — or the South for that matter — but if a redneck is now defined as someone who opposes anti-white fools like Murtha, then my neck is as red as they come!

“He said it’s difficult for them to change”.

MY question is this. Why do people always assume that change is good? The word “Redneck” now means nothing more than conservative.

I’m sure that Barack Obama does intend to change things but at times change can be from bad to worse, it’s happened before.

Not about the district that the ignoble Jack Murtha represents, but it looks like over in PA-11, Lou Barletta has a better than even chance of beating Paul Kanjorski. If any Republicans actually topple Democrats in 2008, they will be in Congressional races, and explicitly because of the immigration issue.

If they are dumb enough to elect Murtha again, I will be inclined to agree with him. Not that being a “redneck” is a guarantee of being stupid any more than it means being a racist.

But if they elect this guy again, I will certainly consider them to be VERY stupid.

I was born in Pittsburgh, and still have a lot of family there. If Murtha is so horrified by the values of his electorate, perhaps he ought to resign, as he is unfit to represent the community that makes up the majority of western PA’s population.

“The word “Redneck” now means nothing more than conservative.”

That may be true but the closest equivalent to using the word ‘redneck’ would be to use the ‘N’ word.

Posted by at 7:52 PM on October 21

What the heck is wrong with Mr. Murta? If he doesn’t care for the people he represents, he doesn’t deserve to represent them!

Posted by at 7:59 PM on October 21

Every time I get to western PA, I feel as if I am in paradise(at least all the parts I’ve been to!!) It is as White as Wyoming in the 1930’s and a fine example of rural America as it once was and still could/should be! I know a lady from western PA who recently moved east. She had rarely travelled beyond her hometown before that and swore she had NEVER seen a single Mexican face-to-face in her life! I thought she was joking of course, but she was deadly serious. That has all changed now - culture shock is an ugly thing!

Screw Murtha…

So saying ‘joe-six pack’ and ‘hockey mom’ bad, and saying redneck Ok.
I need an updated rule book.

Well, now how could it be, that people north of the Mason-Dixon are called “rednecks”? I thought that enduring term was confined to those mean, racist, inbred klansmen of the South. It was bad enough that Jeff Foxworhty demeaned and belittled the entire Southron People and culture. But to hear these fine Pennsylvanians be besmerched by there own representitive is beyond the pale. You see, being from the South. I’ll tell you what to do when your being attacked. Admit your sin, ask the nearest black clergy to forgive you, remove a monument built for one of your white heroes and bow your head in shame, and say your sorry. Be aware of hoaxes, such as anti-graffitti, nooses placed about, cross-burnings and other boogymen “they” will use against you. Oh, by the way. Name every other road in your “redneck” community, Martin Luther King Blvd. Good luck Pa.

Never trust a White man who uses the words racist and racism. Any White who uses it is betraying his people, especially at a time in America when Whites are becoming a minority. Totally disgraceful.

“Murtha said the history of southwestern Pennsylvania is rife with racism.”

Let me guess, this old fool thinks Jeremiah Wright is the epitome of understanding and reason, right?

Kind of scary thinking that senility is the basis for making decisions in Congress nowadays.

Posted by mitch at 9:17 PM on October 21

“Murtha believes there is one segment of the population which is holding on to its racist beliefs and it’s difficult for them to change.” Doesn’t Murtha know by now that you can’t talk about the blacks in Philadelhia and Pittsburgh that way and get away with it? The NAACP’s going to have a field day with this one. Shame on him!

Posted by Tom S at 9:23 PM on October 21

Murtha said “it’s difficult for them to change”

He should be thankful. They keep voting in the same Red dummy!

Posted by GetBackJack at 10:15 PM on October 21

However, I think what is going on is that the media and others are trying to shame white people in Western PA into voting for Obama. When Lynn Swann (who is black) was running for governor in 2006, there was no conscious effort in the media to shame white democrats into voting for Swann. So at that point, so called white racism didn’t matter. It was working for the liberal Democratic candidate.

So what we have folks is a big charade organized by the liberal establishment to get their guy in power, no matter what it takes. If your ethnicity helps, then use it. Joe Biden was picked because he is Irish and Catholic. So the Democrats are using so called racism to pick up votes of whites, especially Irish Catholics because they know Irish Catholics tend to vote for other Irish Catholics. However, Obama’s race and name (don’t forget his middle name Hussein) are working against him, so they call you names if you don’t vote for him because of this. But on the flip side his race does appeal to blacks and liberal whites, so they are using pro-black racism to get Obama votes, but this ok.

Just remember it is not immoral to do what you think is best for your family and your people. If blacks feel that Obama is the best candidate for them don’t criticize them, but don’t criticize me or anybody else for having the same feelings.

This goes to show how arrogant those in government have become. The government is SUPPOSED to be afraid of the people, not vice versa.

I remember right after the revolutionary war, the government failed to pay its soldiers that fought in it. In response, many soldiers marched on the capitol and broke into government buildings, sending the “government” running. They knew not to screw around with us back then, and they need to know now too.

Rednecks better than racist but not by much. It just shows the arrogance of these career politicians. At this point he knows he has a big taxpayer paid pension and has abslutely no regards for the people he represents. The founding fathers never meant for the representatives to be career politicians. Its all become like a serf system where they,ve eliminated the middle class by free trade and sending the good paying jobs overseas. There used to be large steel mills and coal mines in that area but now it is an economically ruined area. A lot of the people have left. Maybe the gubmint thinks it has to punish areas like this. They should do what west virginia did and break off to form their own state. They have presidential candidates attacking them (people cling to guns and religion) and their own so-called representitive. Why put up with it. Amren could you send a newsperson to that area to do a story for your newsletter. I wonder what the people in that area think about him.

Posted by at 11:39 PM on October 21

Its totally acceptable, he’s only insulting white people, now if he were to insult coloreds it would be a different story and his political career would be over.

Posted by abc at 6:47 AM on October 22

It should be obvious to all that this is what our politicians (privileged elite) really think of the working class white electorate. They neither like or trust us and would like to replace us with Third World immigrants. This man can hardly hide his contempt for Western Pennsylvania whites.

Douglas: I am all in favor of “allowing” white comedians to make fun of us, and where we are the ones that are not allowed to be victims. I can easily make fun of myself because I am pretty much secure in knowing who I am and what I can accomplish.

And, who in the heck WANTS to be a victim? i sure don’t! I’ve had more than my share of experience with discrimination and nasty remarks. I’m a Jew, and have heard it all, from dual loyalty to killing The Savior. Mostly it is the babbling from semi-literate descendants of sub-Saharan Nubians. They mouth what they hear on Sunday mornings. One such did this with me repeatedly when I was in the Navy. He was in my chain of command so it made things a bit complicated, but I was able to deal with that easily, and in a way he fond distinctly unpleasant careerwise.

When I was checking out of the division (I had reached my discharge date), he could not resist one last chance to take his shots at me. My reply to him was that what he said might find an audience in some circles. Also, the next morning, I would wake up, start my day, and being that I was comfortable with who I was and what I did, it mattered not at all what he thought of me. That his thoughts, and in fact HE HIMSELF, were not relevant; that no one CARED what he thought.

So, take the joke, and just remember that in all likelihood, the teller of the jokes has no effect on your life. The ones who DO affect your life are the ones to concentrate on, not a mere comedian.

I think we should know the original meaning of the term ‘redneck.’ Although I don’t know very much about Scottish history and so I can’t check whether the statements on this link are correct. I think that if the statements are correct, they will give us a certain amount of ‘historical fortitude’ when we are called ‘rednecks’ or ‘crackers.’

Quote: “The origins of this term Redneck are Scottish and refer to supporters of the National Covenant and The Solemn League and Covenant, or “Covenanters”, largely Lowland Presbyterians, many of whom would flee Scotland for Ulster (Northern Ireland) during persecutions by the British Crown. The Covenanters of 1638 and 1641 signed the documents that stated that Scotland desired the Presbyterian form of church government and would not accept the Church of England as its official state church.

Many Covenanters signed in their own blood and wore red pieces of cloth around their necks as distinctive insignia; hence the term “Red neck”, (rednecks) which became slang for a Scottish dissenter*. One Scottish immigrant, interviewed by the author, remembered a Presbyterian minister, one Dr. Coulter, in Glasgow in the 1940’s wearing a red clerical collar — is this symbolic of the “rednecks”?

Since many Ulster-Scottish settlers in America (especially the South) were Presbyterian, the term was applied to them, and then, later, their Southern descendants. One of the earliest examples of its use comes from 1830, when an author noted that “red-neck” was a “name bestowed upon the Presbyterians.” It makes you wonder if the originators of the ever-present “redneck” joke are aware of the term’s origins - Rednecks? “

I’m proud to be a redneck.
Its better than being a black, a portorican, chinese and african any day.

The real question is: why wont some redneck put his life on the line and democratically challenge Murtha for his public office?

Face it: the white race just does not have enough members willing to risk it all in a protracted election battle.

Thus: we get screwed over and over and over.

They have already depopulated that area by closing steel mills and mines. Now all thats left is to first say things like people cling to guns and religion,(another way of saying religious gun nuts?). Then one of the cronys makes statements like racist and rednecks. This allows conspiracy dictators to socially engineer the area and bring in H1-b immigrants to take any and all jobs so no locals,(even if they have the training) to be left out in the cold. Did you know they built prisons there and what pa. does is send the prisoneers from the western part of the state east, and the prisoners from the eastern part of the state to the west. Nice for visiting day and saving energy. Then when they are released they are released to the local population. How about this for draconian laws? I read there were some Amish in western Pa. and their schools have outhouses.(their religion states to live the simple life Which they have probably been doing since they came over from europe). Well heres the kicker the local government fined them 1ooo dollars for having outhouses. They have been used for thousands of years why start fining them for it now? If the government can do this why can,t they get rid of those 20 million ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS? I remember when they put that guy in colorado out of business supposedly because he had a bad septic system. Hes the one who got a fortified bulldozer and did some damage before they stopped him. If you go there you can find people from India running hotels. Readers digest had a story aabout indians running 37%of the privately run hotels in America. I lived here all my life and theres no chance of me ever owning a hotel. Dewey and Debbie deerhunter should start to be wary about what these people are saying about guns. Amren maybe you can have one of your conventions in Johnstown. Maybe there wouldn,t be any demonstrations outside your hotel. But then again maybe there would be more. When they say time for change, does that mean all you will have left in your 401k is change but no dollars? Stockmarket is down over 500 points again today.

Thanks Friendly Grizzly. You’re right. I’m from a Catholic background (since left), mother Irish, father varied, but I’ve always liked communicating and being around Jews, as long as they don’t rag too much on Christians and their beliefs. The intelligence (generally, anyway), the survivor attitude, the sense of being above it all but in it all. I get it.

Murtha is white trash. He is a “Jeremiah Wright” type. Whoever votes for him is a racist bigot. I’m sure racist africans will vote for him.

Posted by Elrey Jones at 9:10 PM on October 22

Maybe Murtha is a senile old fool but do you think it’s possible maybe Murtha is sabotaging Obama? Calling people names and lecturing them is not a persuasive argument to me. My reaction to someone like this would be to do the opposite! There’s some awfully peculiar things going on in this election, not to mention Biden’s comment about an Obama Presidency provoking an international incident.

Unfortunately the “rednecks” will vote this moron back in.

I saw on the history channel that when certain miners in West Virginia were fighting strikebreakers in the early 1900’s, they wore red bandanas around their necks and the North Eastern papers called them “rednecks.”

Modern-day pejoratives for whites seem to revolve around the low opinion of strikebreakers. In St. Louis, the term “hoosier” is a slur for lower-class whites, while it’s a term of endearment in Indiana. The origin is probably due to some olden days labor strike in St. Louis where Indianans were the scabs.

I’ve heard that the term ‘redneck’ was a derogatory term used by ‘african americans’ to describe covered up whiteys working outdoors that only got sunburnt (red) on their necks. Like my old Grandad on the farm that was completely covered his whole life, but got sun canceres on his neck.
Now, being a rather pale Australian that is an outdoor worker, I have got the ‘redneck’ now and again. How the hell do you get a ‘redneck’ in Pennsylvania? Or Alaska even?

First John de Nugent lauds this area, now AmRen.

Can I rephrase the song by John Denver?

“Almost heaven, Western PA.
Pure white lady, crystal water..”. or however it goes….

Can I move there…NOW? With my family?
Deo Volente.

Too bad that Murtha has the liberal mental defect. Most of his background is pretty good.
