Separate. Equal?

More news stories on Race in Schools

Jeff Woods, Nashville Scene, August 28, 2008

Neighborhood schools are great unless your neighborhood is the ghetto, in which case the sensible parent is putting her child on the first big yellow bus to the safer, happier place where white people live, where there’s money and hope.

In a nutshell, that’s what the city’s entire black leadership has been trying to explain to the white establishment since the debate over the Metro school rezoning plan exploded into the headlines this summer like something out of the Sixties. Predictably—since when have white people listened to black people in this city?—the point seems to have been lost, even though there’s decades of social science proving the common sense of it.

To illustrate, here’s an anecdote, one of those it-would-be-funny-if-it-weren’t-so-sad stories. Teachers take fourth-graders on a field trip to Nashville’s jail to frighten them away from drugs and guns. But who’s afraid? The kids are smiling and waving to their relatives behind bars.

{snip}

Forty years of studies, beginning with the famous Coleman Report in 1966, have shown that sending a lot of poor kids to school in the same place is a really bad idea. It’s a central issue in education—how to teach poor urban children—and in all the research there’s no more consistent conclusion than this: In schools where poverty is concentrated, students learn less. All the problems these children face—poor health, hunger, drugs, gangs and violence, and a culture that scorns education—it’s all just too overwhelming for schools.

Poor children learn more in middle-class settings, the research shows. That happens, as the Coleman Report states, “not from racial composition per se but from the better educational background and higher educational aspirations that are, on average, found among whites.” Blacks not only learn more with whites, studies show, but they gain entrée to white social networks and jobs later in life. It’s a way out.

For more than 1,300 poor children in Nashville, the school rezoning plan would close that door of opportunity, according to the city’s black leaders. Under the plan, beginning next school year (unless opponents succeed in stopping it), those students no longer will be bused 40 minutes to the upscale neighborhoods of Hillwood, but will go instead closer to home in the Pearl-Cohn cluster of schools in predominately black North Nashville.

The black enrollment at Hillwood High, located next to a country club and luxury dream homes, will drop immediately from roughly 50 percent to 25 percent. Pearl-Cohn’s eight schools, already heavily black and poor, will become that much more so. In all but two schools, more than 90 percent of the students will be African American. Overall, nearly 90 percent will be poor enough to receive federally subsidized school lunches.

Already in Nashville, the black-white educational achievement gap is yawning, with more than double the percentage of elementary- and middle-school blacks failing to perform at their grade levels in math and reading, just to name two subjects. Black leaders are convinced the rezoning plan will exacerbate that.

{snip}

To try to placate blacks, the school board promises to spend $6 million a year to add an array of social services to Pearl-Cohn schools and to pay teachers more. There are a couple of obvious thorns on this olive branch: (1) No one can guarantee the funding. The city had to dip into reserve accounts to pay for schools this year, and any future tax increase will be hard to come by, requiring voter approval under a new Metro Charter amendment. (2) And even if more money is spent in these schools, it probably won’t help students learn more.

{snip}

Despite the additional services provided at the schools, the researchers found, “the penetrating and punishing effects of neighborhood poverty undercut these efforts.” Because of the difficulties at the schools, teachers were typically less experienced, and turnover was high. Test scores didn’t go up. The students weren’t learning any better.

{snip}

Before 1998, when court-ordered busing ended in Nashville, Olive school was racially balanced. Teachers said things were better then. The students from the housing projects found role models in other children at the school.

“I really believe if children come into a diverse classroom, they model each other,” one teacher said. “You’ll find them looking and seeing the children who are getting the praises and they start to mimic that because they want to be noticed right away.”

Another teacher put it bluntly, “I think it needs to be diverse, both economically and culturally. If we are living in a diverse nation and world, we need to have that here as well. They need to know what is going on out there, not just drugs, alcohol, prostitution and new babies.”

{snip}

Actually, black leaders think they know what’s behind the rezoning plan. In their view—which is not without supporting evidence—board members, acting in cahoots with the Chamber of Commerce, want to remove as many black children as possible from Hillwood to make those schools more acceptable to white people.

It’s not a pretty conclusion, and school board members deny it. Warden retorts, “This is no more racially motivated than the man in the moon.” But is there another plausible explanation?

“I’m not saying they’re racists because I do not know what’s in their hearts,” Maynard says. “But I do know they don’t care. They shoved this down our throats.”

{snip}

This is the point in the story where you might expect the school board to acquiesce in the interest of racial harmony, demonstrating for all to see how far we’ve come as a shining city of the New South at the beginning of the 21st century. That’s some other story.

Instead, at a raucous meeting peppered with protests from the audience, the board adopted the new student assignment zones by a vote of 5-4. One black member—Antioch’s Karen Johnson—joined the board’s four whites to make the majority. Some blacks in her district, outraged by what they saw as a betrayal, started a recall petition against Johnson. She took $10,500 in contributions from business interests in her election campaign two years ago—almost two-thirds of what she raised altogether. She denied on her blog that she was unduly influenced by the chamber and called the assertion “an insult to the democratic and educational process.”

The vote left black leaders fuming. The board was obviously determined to rezone students even if it alienated an entire segment of the city. It smacked of the days of desegregation.

{snip}

White flight began in 1971 in Nashville with the start of court-ordered busing. In that year alone, 8,600 white children—18 percent of the district’s white students—left the system. Busing built Brentwood, whose population doubled to nearly 10,000 by 1980 as white families scampered just across the Davidson County line.

The white exodus didn’t stop once Nashville’s 43-year-old federal desegregation case finally ended in 1998. The Nashville school system’s white population, still at 48 percent in 2001, has now fallen to 36 percent. Forty-seven percent of the district’s 78,000 children are black. Alarmingly, the percentage of children poor enough to qualify for subsidized lunches has jumped from 47 percent seven years ago to 71 percent today.

{snip}

Personally, Fox says he voted for the rezoning plan because he thinks all children should attend neighborhood schools, whether they like it or not. Entering a parallel universe of his own imagining, in which urban squalor might resemble scenes from Disney movies with bluebirds singing and fresh-scrubbed children playing on pretty green lawns, Fox dismisses all the research warning against his idea.

{snip}

Fox argues that blacks attending schools in middle-class neighborhoods haven’t done any better than those in the inner city. The state Education Department, which is now effectively running this district, could point to no data that backs up that assertion. Fox is undeterred.

“If the government is going to send children 13 miles away to their school, the government is preventing the parents from getting involved in the school at all and also preventing their children from having any after-school activity,” Fox says. “That’s not the right side of the public school system to be on.”

{snip}

Black leaders aren’t finished fighting the school board. In an inflammatory letter that compared the rezoning plan to a hangman’s gallows for children, the NAACP told the board to reconsider its vote. This month at its most recent meeting, the board ignored the demand.

Now the plan’s foes hope new board members elected this month will agree to make changes. One, Alan Coverstone, is seen as the key vote because he replaces Warden, who didn’t run for another term after helping push through the plan. But Coverstone, an administrator at Montgomery Bell Academy, says he’s OK with what’s happened.

{snip}

In that case, it’s probably on to Plan B for the NAACP: Sue the city for discriminating against black children. Oddly enough, the school board never bothered to seek legal advice on whether its action could expose the district to a lawsuit.

{snip}

Another possible lawsuit could accuse white officials of violating the state open meetings law. Garcia’s memos describe various secret meetings in which resegregation was discussed. All of them could have been illegal under the law, which at the time prohibited two or more members of a governing body from deliberating or deciding an issue except in a public meeting. A judge who finds sunshine law violations could nullify the vote on rezoning.

Black leaders can recognize that black children do better in school in the enviroment typically found among white people.
Why can the same Black leaders not recognize that it is the failure of black culture and black institutions that makes the enviroment of blacks the enviroment in which blacks are more likely to fail ?
Black culture is partly built on hating white culture but it is white culture that is better for black learning and success in life according to the black leaders in Nashville. So it seems to me that it is the black communitiy and the black leaders who need to change black culture to respect education and learning before any real changes can be made in the poverty culture of the blacks in this article. Blacks must change their culture to suceed and whites should stop paying for the welfare and drug rehabilitation unless blacks make real sustained efforts to change their culture nothing will help.

DSoes anyone have a different workable solution ?

“Another teacher put it bluntly, “I think it needs to be diverse, both economically and culturally. If we are living in a diverse nation and world, we need to have that here as well. They need to know what is going on out there, not just drugs, alcohol, prostitution and new babies.”

No! Absolutely not! I do not want my White children to learn about drugs, alcohol, prostitution, childhood sex or any of the other Black-pathologies. How dare this “teacher” suggest that my children need to be exposed to this or that my children will somehow benefit from such exposure.

If sitting in classrooms cheek-by-jowl with middle class White children would motivate these black kids to get better grades and seek careers instead of drug dealing, gang banging and death, why hasn’t it done it in 40-odd years that the busing plan in Nashville was in place?

Of course, the arguments put forth by the various black “leaders” such as the NAACP are simply a crock. What happens all too often in these artificially integrated schools is that the White kids pick up all the blacks’ bad habits, because they think the blacks are “cool.” But being “cool,” when carried to the extremes that blacks usually do, can land you in the “cooler” (prison or morgue, take your choice.)

What the whole dispute boils down to is this: Blacks practically vomit at the thought that somewhere there is a school full of White kids who are not being contaminated by blacks’ presence.

“…bus to the safer, happier place where white people live, where there’s money and hope.”

“…the point seems to have been lost, even though there’s decades of social science proving the common sense of it.

What do we learn from these statements? That the only hope for blacks is to around whites? That whites are better? That whites are superior? Only whites can maintain quality schools?

These people never seem to understand the implications of their assertions.

So - this is basically blaming whitey again for the lack of failure in an all “black neighborhood and school system”! In other words white children and their schools will have to be dumbed down to the tenth degree to accommodate under educated blacks? This is insane.

People move to a neighborhood based on the fact of the school system if they can afford to do so. Again white people are made to suffer for their successes’ and their children being made targets of violent acts by blacks in their schools systems. This is wrong.

You can’t force integration when people don’t want it! Its called freedom of association. America is NOT a free country anymore.

Multiculturalism is a communist plot plain and simple. Don’t believe me? Consult some history books. The only thing Communists have achieved is the mass murder of millions of white Christians. No sovereign nation has ever survived Multiculturalism.

Poor children learn more in middle-class settings, the research shows.

There was a Federal court ordered study around the St. Louis inter-district deseg, called the Lisset Study. It found that the academic performance of desegged black students was worse than that of black students in the St. Louis City district.

Also, this Nashville Scene seems to think that you need white people in a given place for there to be prosperity and achievement. A lot of libs seem to think that, even though out of the other side of their mouths, they’ll say either there is no such thing as race, or that the races are fundamentally equal.

SO much concern for black children and not one comment about what may or may not be good for white children. Is Jeff Woods perhaps hostile to white children?

“I think it needs to be diverse, both economically and culturally. If we are living in a diverse nation and world, we need to have that here as well.”

Then how about seeing what they can do to encourage non-blacks to attend all those 90 + percent black schools? Seeing what they can do to end the racism - the shameful legacy of fear and discomfort, there? Or is ‘diversity’ simply a pro-black agenda on all fronts, and calling on blacks to respect diversity for real is not how the game is played?

from the article - Blacks not only learn more with whites, studies show, but they gain entrée to white social networks and jobs later in life. It’s a way out.

Why can’t blacks create their own opportunities? Who did whites feed off of to get where they are? This parasitical black behavior must come to an end and it is up to white people to finally say enough is enough. Equal opportunity is all anybody deserves, the rest is up to the individual and not only is forced integration wrong it is no solution. Notably absent from the article is the harm these poor (quality) urban youth pose to the white students subjected to them. We have enough statistics on the unruly disruptive anti-social behavior of minority students to allow us to finally say enough is enough without accusations of unjust racial prejudice being justified.

Sounds like the White folks in my old college town of Nashville did OK on this. No panic, no bad PR moves, just presentation of calm responses that neighborhood schools are better and long range forced busing didn’t seem to help Black achievement scores.

Note that the White flight public school was 50% non White with busing, still comes in at 25% after busing has ended and the 25% non whites left are pleased as punch that the worst 25% of Blacks from the hood will not be disrupting their education in the White school. Sounds like arrangements were made with some want to be Black middle class folks who moved out to get away to vote to end busing. This is the way to go, backroom deals, pay offs, aliances, do what is necessary. One good thing about the Reagan Bush years is that the courts are no longer pushing busing and Whites, except in the worst sink whole NW cities can find a way to get out of the worst of the worst NW, anti White public schools.

So, Africans can’t learn unless there are whites to show them how it is done?

Poverty does not create Africans. Africans create poverty.

I am all for the advantages of poor black children going to school with middle class white children - as long as it is not my children they are going to school with. I am not sacrificing my children so I can feel like I am doing my part to help the underpriviliged (bogus word for poor).

“To try to placate blacks, the school board promises to spend…”
My God, these people still haven’t learned that you can’t placate blacks.

And leave it to Claire Smrekar and Ellen Goldring, to deliberately state the laws of the universe in reverse order, in order to come to the conclusion that poverty is the cause of the achievement gap.
When actually the low IQ of blacks comes first. Poverty naturally follows.

“Fox argues that blacks attending schools in middle-class neighborhoods haven’t done any better than those in the inner city. The state Education Department, which is now effectively running this district, could point to no data that backs up that assertion.”

Note (above) how the writer of the article twists things around. If there were data that showed that busing improved Black scores, then he (and everyone else) would be bragging about it. However, there is obviously no data showing improvement. So, the writer must claim that “the District could point to no data.” i.e., the writer cynically tries to put a positive spin on the program’s failure, by claiming that there is no data showing failure, when in fact, there is actually no data showing success. Most likely the the data shows no improvement — it is just that the District did not release it. The would only release data favorable to them.

Folks, there are some articles where it’s just imperative to write the paper or the writer with calm, reasoned arguments totally debunking the printed hogwash. This is one of those occasions.

‘…blacks attending schools in middle-class neighborhoods haven’t done any better than those in the inner city.”

That’s probably not true. Its likely the “Black” kids attending school with White kids do better at shaking down their fellow students for their lunch money in schools where children of more affluent parents attend. The Government doesn’t provide free lunches in the school cafeteria for them, so most of them carry money. In addition, playing the fool in class gets them more attention in those schools than in all “Black” schools where such “Black” behavioral characteristics are considered to be “normal”.

“Vanderbilt’s Claire Smrekar says, “There’s no data to support that assertion, that simply locating children closer to home will lead to higher parent involvement in these communities. These parents are distracted by the debilitating conditions of poverty. Talk to teachers. They’ll tell you that these parents are stressed and often hard to locate because they’re either enrolled in school or working two jobs to make ends meet.”

Ha, the ghetto dwellers are taking physics courses and working ten jobs, when they aren’t working the garden and changing out the transmission on their neighbor’s car. That’s why you can’t “locate them.” They are the most industrious and productive people on the planet, while living in subsidized housing.

I’d be interested to know if anyone can point to an instance where ordinary black students have improved a school district. I’ll offer a reward to any takers. My experience is that the only thing black students offer is loud noises. That may be harsh but it is true. And I don’t like loud noises.

These black kids are just pawns, weapons of extortion for black leaders to make money. Dey want sum duckets fo movin dem out de white schools or dey gonna sue. I personally think this rezoning plan is a waste of time unless they move out all the blacks. Twenty-five percent black is still pretty high and I wouldn’t want my child in a classroom with such a high number of children of the corn……rows. My child’s school is 2% black and 97% White.

Posted by at 8:15 PM on August 28

Why do White people have to be so racist? These poor little Black children aren’t going to learn anything from other Black children. Their parents don’t care about education. Why can’t they be around the great White children? White parents should be forced to take care of all the Black children and teach them how to be smart. At the very least they will learn diversity. Think about how great that will be. Maybe some rich White parents will be so lucky and their 14 year old daughter will get impregnated by a 17 year old black boy and she will have a beautiful mixed baby that will one day grow up to be the next President.

Poor children learn more in middle-class settings, the research shows.

This baloney was started back in 1963 ( with the same exact statement)with “forced busing “ and now the same garbage is being resurrected in 2008, why?

Well over a generation has come and gone and the nonsense of forcing white children to be mixed with blacks continues in spite of the all the fancy Marxist pogroms that always fail.

Another disgusting so-called journalist that is squeaking the poor blacks manta, too dense to understand that the only people to blame for black failure are blacks themselves.

He so badly wants everybody to make black problems their problems as his contribution to what his skewed thinking perceives to be an effort to “correct the injustices.” Of course, he’s going to do nothing more than pound out a few words, and that’s it for him.

I’m absolutely sick of these skewed geeks putting black failure off on whites, as if whites caused them to consistently turn to crime and violence, too dense to realize they do that because it’s easier than working. Until they get caught, that is, then he’ll write another idiot piece about the injustice of so many blacks going to the slammer.

The only people worse than blacks are leftist whites who are about the most disgusting creatures on the face of the earth.

“All the problems these children face—poor health, hunger, drugs, gangs and violence, and a culture that scorns education—it’s all just too overwhelming for schools”.

Yes transport that culture to white areas who have money.Un-like some minorities white people work. Let white areas handle the problems of black kids, that black areas won’t handle. Well It has been proven that transporting minority kids to white areas, only bring minority problems with them. Infact not only do they still struggle they teach white kids to act like them. What has happened sense segregation is that black culture gangs, violence, drugs, hunger, poor health, spoiledness and anti-education, has been pushed on to whites. So now we have 3 generations of un-healthy fat, spoiled, gangsta wannbes, drug loveing white kids who hate education and look up to un-educated non-white “rappers”.

All the problems you see in society have come from desegregation. When schools desegregated white kids every generation after segregation ended, learned black culture. By Black culture I mean gangs, spoiled, drugs, un-healty, anti-school culture, that forster in the black community. Black culture has become popular culture in America today. I should actually say black culture has become Americas culture. Spoiledness, un-healthy, gangs, drugs and anti education “drop-outs” is black American culture. And because of interactions threw school and because of desegregation, white kids have also picked up the bad habits and attitudes non-whites kids have.

I visited my old High School not too long ago. I looked on the wall with all the graduating class pictures. My old high school probably had 3 Black kids out of 1500 kids back in 1990, now according to a website, there were 60 Blacks in 2006. I looked at the graduating class of 2005, 2006 and 2007, if you do the Math, each class should have had 20 Blacks graduating class, I looked carefully at these pictures and I noticed maybe 3 Black kids in each of the class pictures. This means most of the Blacks that go to that school do not graduate.

since when have white people listened to black people in this city?

Poor blacks, whites won’t listen to (i.e., obey) them.

They should try being white for a while. We don’t even get to think, much less say, what we want.

Always we read about how it’s better for blacks to be bused into nice white area schools with better performing white students, but no one ever presents any research that shows the impact of these bused-in black students on the white students. The impact is surely negative –poor low IQ black students from crime-ridden areas cannot be expected to produce anything else but negative effects. But what might be best for white students is never considered; no one seems to question the justice in having them suffer for the imagined benefit of blacks.

White people trying to have the best schools for their children might be called racism by blacks but it is in fact irresponsible cowardice for the white parents to do anything else. It time for someone to admit that a lot poor performing black students in the classroom diminishes the educational environment and potential of the white students for a lot of obvious reasons, not the least of which is that such black students tend to be more disruptive.

Let them scream “racism” all they want - they are not your friends. Whites - and Asians also - need to defend the welfare of their own instead of sacrificing their own for blacks who surely don’t care about non-black children.

Posted by Chessplayer at 9:47 PM on August 28

Social science has proven only that whites don’t get a chance to learn when you have all the disruptions from blacks. Integration was/is a failed experiment on the middle class. Blacks don’t attend school to learn, they attend to intimidate and to find a white girlfriend. That’s why the U.S. is so far down the ladder compared to other countries in education.

I found one correct statement in this article:

“I really believe if children come into a diverse classroom, they model each other,” one teacher said.”

It was, after all, my own experiences with diversity that made me join Amren.

Other than that, what TiredOldWhite wrote sums it up: no concern, whatsoever, for the welbeing (or safety) of white kids.

Notice that, as usual, the alleged reporter does not ask any of these lefties where their kids go to school. They all go to private schools so as not to be exposed to the negrification of the public schools. Did any of you ever go to public school with the offspring of an educrat? Thot so.

To those of you that had the immense pleasure of attending the American Renaissance Conference, this past February, you may recall the witty and hilarious lecture presented by Professor Eugene Valberg, on “The African Mind”. I had the wonderful opportunity to have breakfast with him, on Sunday morning. Among the many topics we discussed were his observations of his decades spent in Africa. He told me that every last African believes in magic, no matter how wealthy, or “well-educated” and modern they may appear to be. “Every last one!”. This unfortunate situation, playing out in Nashville, seems to be a genetic extension of the African American’s African forbears. Contact with Whites will somehow make Blacks learn, develop, and succeed.

Uh huh.

“Poor children learn more in middle-class settings, the research shows.”

Mighty fine and dandy, but middle-class kids have less of an opportunity to learn when in the presence of disruptive, violence-prone “poor children” (read: “black children”).

Does anybody… EVER… take the rights and interests of nice middle-class white kids into consideration?!

Posted by generalquagmyer at 11:25 PM on August 28

Rather than improving their own neighborhood schools, blacks see the solution for their educational failings in sending their children to white schools. All this does is bring down the educational standards of the white schools and the white schools quickly become non-white. The equalizing is not rising to higher levels of aspirations but rather in bringing down the successful to the levels of failure. Busing is an unnecessary expense. As a footnote, so is school lunch. Schools are to educate, not to provide free lunch. Most of the food is thrown about and out anyway.

“In recent rulings, the Supreme Court has created a mandate for plaintiffs to prove ‘intent,’ the decision-makers’ actual motivation to discriminate against a minority group. It’s a near-impossible standard and rarely met. But Garcia might have delivered what lawyers like to call ‘the smoking gun’ in the form of his memos, which cast players in this little drama as anything but high-minded public servants.” (from original article).

What kind of Justices are appointed to the Supreme Court pay a huge role in these kind of things of course (e.g. Brown vs. Board of Ed, which started this entire mess of integration). Too bad the Supreme Court has too often acted as a legislative branch of gov’t with the power to overrule the designated legislative branch.

The diversity/busing of black into white schools never mentions that blacks are influencing whites and have changed white culture to become more like them. Public schools are instruments for blacks and their advancement without regard for what this has done to our white culture. I propose that blacks seeking to continue the use of white schools to correct poor interests of black children need to more firmly adopt white cultural values. The cultural divide is being closed by destroying white culture and making US more like them. The demands of blacks need to be balanced with the needs and costs to white people. Remember, blacks will not be there for whites.
They are only here to blame US for what we accomplish.
Public schools are used more for reproduction & pregnancy than for learning. I have little to no confidence in public schools.
They are nothing more than feelings factories for unionized workers to socialize children into wards of the state. V

I note that it was never deemed necessary to bus poor white Appalachian children into wealthier school districts. It is blacks who seem incapable of educating their own, and must forevermore be leeching off whitey. Yes, those urban black neighborhoods are tough places, with squalor, gangs, drugs, and fatherless children. But who made them that way? Black people, of course. And they take perverse pride in “keeping it real.”

No doubt some conscientious black mothers (I won’t say “parents” because Dad isn’t around) could get a better education for their children if they could send them off to a white school. The problem is that if more than a few black students from the ghetto attend that superior white school the discipline problems increase, the educational quality lowers, and soon the school isn’t a good school anymore. Also, the black parents will complain that so few of their sons wind up in the advanced placement classes, and blame it all on white racism. They will complain that the curriculum isn’t Afro-centric enough. Who needs that?

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if for once a newspaper editorialist demanded what is best for white children?

Posted by Heteronormatively Privileged White Male Oppressor at 1:35 AM on August 29

Blacks will never “get it”. All those things they are so concerned about are the results of the personal choices made by the parents and the students themselves, it is not white racism making them bad students, drug addicted criminals who drop out of school, they make their own choice to be poor, be thugs, drop out of school, blaming everything on whites is the problem, liberalism is a sickness that will make you poor waiting on someone else to give you something. I know a few black conservatives, none are poor, their kids are average or better students, some came from very poor backgrounds.

I personally believe that to some extent white children do need to be exposed to the “black culture”. They need to be made aware of how these people really are and the threat they represent to a well ordered society. It is only through learning the truth first hand that our children will recognize and be able to deal with blacks in an effective manner. I had a black co-worker tell me years ago that “many blacks teach their children to hate whites and view them as opressors while whites teach their children tolerance & understanding”. His statement certainly caused me to re-evaluate my feelings toward diversity.

“White flight began in 1971 in Nashville with the start of court-ordered busing. In that year alone, 8,600 white children—18 percent of the district’s white students—left the system. Busing built Brentwood, whose population doubled to nearly 10,000 by 1980 as white families scampered just across the Davidson County line.”

Ha! [sick, disgusted laugh]

Brentwood used to be a hick town, in my youth. Now wealthy folks & yuppies from “up north” have taken over. All agricultural knowledge in Middle TN is lost. Our farmland, once legendary, is “paved over’ for the insatiable consumerism’s lust. As the encroachment of the third world into YOUR area increases, you’ll see the same or worse results.

Read some pre-PC US history books, before they’re banned forever!

Black people want to get away from other black people (maybe they knows things we don’t).

But if white people want to stay away from black people they are not using good judgment but are racist.

Most school districts with large amounts of blacks, have a large amount of black school board members, and administrators. Since whites have caused all the issues that these poor black children face, shouldn’t all these educated blacks that are running the schools, be able to educate their own kind the best?

African-Americans consider themselves victims, which makes them victims. Stop being a victim! If you don’t like your community or school, then do something about it. Don’t sit there and beg for the “White Man” to come solve all your problems.

Black man — get some cahjonies! Do what White people would do. Clean up your community, do not tolerate low grades, crime, drugs, truancy, sex among children, irresponsible behavior, and thug-rap. Stop abandoning your children and their mothers. Grow-up. Stop acting like children. Take responsibility for your lives. White people are sick and tired of bailing you out. All other ethnic groups in this nation have succeeded. You are the only group that has failed. It is time that Blacks carried their own weight.

Although we never had segregation in the UK, this is also true over here. Everything now caters for the lowest common denominator. Education is seen as “uncool”. White middle class kids from London talk in a fake ghetto accent - “Jafaican”. No one ever puts their hands up and says “sorry, I was in the wrong”, they prefer to act aggrieved and fight over the most trivial of matters, sometimes ending in someone getting knifed or kicked to death. People want everything on a plate and they want it NOW. They know all about their “rights”, but nothing of responsibilities. Men and women have multiple babies with multiple partners, and expect the state to provide everything, and there are whole families that have been on benefits for 2-3 generations, and see nothing wrong in it. People have no thought as to how their actions may affect others, everyone has a f*** you attitude. Gang violence is common, gangs of 10 kids, as young as 10-11 years old, regularly attack adults who ask them to turn music down or stop throwing litter.It affects all levels of society, and has spread from the inner cities, through the suburbs, to even the smallest, previously tranquil rural market towns. The neo-Marxists who now administer Britain on behalf of the EU should be swinging from lamposts for bringing about the slow destruction of this once great country.

……”The only thing Communists have achieved is the mass murder of millions of white Christians.”

Posted by Global Minority at 6:54 PM on August 28

> But they weren’t murdered because they were Christians, they were murderered because Stalin was a madman whose paranoia ran wild and unchecked. In Communist China, where millions also died in the various 20th century revolutions and upheavals, Christianity was never an issue because there were few Christians there to begin with.

If you really check history and how the system worked, churches were closed, but only official members of the communist party in both countries were “officially” atheist, while regular members of society went on with their previous beliefs. That is why for example, the Russian Orthodox church bounced back so quickly after 1990; they were never really gone. In Yugoslavia, the same story only moreso. The Serbian Orthodox churces were preserved during Tito’s time and the Catholic Churches closed but also preserved. The fact is, they were simply trying to limit non-national influences in their countries. And that makes some sense. I lived in Slovenia in the 1990s and it was amazing how the Catholic Church was attempting to rush back in and take over the management of the large forests (Slovenia is considered the greenest country in Europe) as they did during the Habsburg - Holy Roman Empire period. They also tried to take over all education in Slovenia. And they got at least the forests (the education question was still in process when I left). How?, they made a deal with the new leaders in Slovenia, who got nice villas in Italy in exchange for selling out their country to the Vatican.

This reminds me of a phrase often repeated by my father as my brothers and I were growing up, ” Good never rubs off on bad; bad will always rub off on good”. As another has already posted, the majority of the simulating will be from the border-line whites who will imitate black behavior rather than trying harder to do the right things by studying, staying home, doing their assignments, getting a part-time job, etc..

My experience in life has shown my father’s words to be very, very true. Granted, the opposite can and does occur, but it is the rare case indeed. Those who are trying to redistrict students back to their own neighborhoods are doing something for the better students. Which is a rare occurrence these days. It seems anymore that all attention, effort and financing is given to the undisciplined, uninterested, unemployed,, etc., etc, etc. If you and your children possess none of these undesirable traits, then your overlooked and forgotten. God forbid we should take notice of the “good” kids.

“The white exodus didn’t stop once Nashville’s 43-year-old federal desegregation case finally ended in 1998. The Nashville school system’s white population, still at 48 percent in 2001, has now fallen to 36 percent. Forty-seven percent of the district’s 78,000 children are black.”

Will it ever occur to moral-posturing liberals like Jeff Woods of the Nashville Scene what these statistics obviously mean?

There is no racist conspiracy driving this trend, it is simply the considered judgement of each individual set of parents that getting their kids away from a school burdened by the thoughts, habits, attitudes and behavior of inner-city black students is absolutely necessary to protect the quality of their children’s education and lives.

What we have here is just one more symptom of the Liberal denial disease. Ideologically incapable of admitting the reality of IQ differences and their unavoidably unfortunate cultural consequences, like a man with a one-string banjo, Liberals continue to sing for more public money and more government force (laws) to make that reality go away.

As usual, the line from the black organizations and their leftist friends is: “You evil, nasty, racist white people with your racist, exclusionary attitudes and hatred for blacks … please let us live among you, attend your schools and gain membership to your nice country clubs. If you don’t, it probably means you’re RACIST!”

And amen to 10:33 AM’s post. The only sane message that can be said, but the one which many blacks, Bill Cosby aside, prefer to tune out.

They’re not busing poor whites to wealthy neighborhoods. Neither do I think poor whites would benefit. This is what Jared Taylor talks about. Diversity just adds more tension. Perhaps this weeks democratic convention would have benefited from having 70,000 republicans from their upcoming convention bused to the democratic convention?

Where ever around the world people have been fighting it is because of diversity. I don’t doubt many poor blacks would benefit from attending white schools - schools where the population of whites is high anyway, and Respect for diversity is a good thing, but actively increasing diversity even if by force is just increasing problems and tension. It should be enough that we respect other people. The diversity people don’t. Neither do the blacks being ballyhooed here.

They need to know what is going on out there, not just drugs, alcohol, prostitution and new babies.”

The new babies are the problem - bringing countless children into the world irresponsibly with no means or intention of caring for them, but expecting society (whites) to take care of it all.

To quote an American teacher who came under fire for making this statement: “Overwhelmingly, the students whose behavior makes the hallways deafening, who yell out for the teacher and demand immediate attention in class, who cannot seem to stop chatting and are fascinated by each other and relationships but not with academics…are African American.”

“Poor children learn more in middle-class settings, the research shows.”
——————————————
Of course they do—IF you are studying poor WHITE children. Poor White children and their families usually instintively know when they are being helped and take over helping themselves as soon as they possibly can.(They also usually have a horror of “taking charity” and that helps.)

“I note that it was never deemed necessary to bus poor white Appalachian children into wealthier school districts.”
——————————————
Appalachian communities aren’t as fashionable to the Libtards as Black neighborhoods. They tried in Appalachia in the 60’s and it didn’t go over too well. (For the reasons stated above.)

“many blacks teach their children to hate whites and view them as opressors”

That man is 110% correct. I am a Pakistani who has lived with black families in Birmingham, England and I can attest that all day long on any given day, Blacks complain and make fun about White people. This has a tremendous effect on the children.

“….To try to placate blacks, the school board promises to spend $6 million a year to add an array of social services….”

It is infuriating that THIS (fear of black ‘agitation’) trumps facts, data, years of intense studies, and sanity.

“….beginning with the famous Coleman Report in 1966, have shown that sending a lot of poor kids to school in the same place is a really bad idea.

The Coleman Report did not state this.

According to Charles Murray in his new book Real Education (p. 58):

“…everybody (including Coleman) thought that the study would document a relationship between the quality of schools and the academic achievement of the students in those schools. To everyone’s surprise, the Coleman report..found that the quality of schools explains almost nothing about differences in academic achievement…”

And:

“…Family background was far and away the most important factor in determining student achievement…reanalysis of the Coleman data and the collection of new data over many years support the core finding…”

There is even a hint of rare sanity mentioned in the article, which supports the Coleman data:

“….Fox argues that blacks attending schools in middle-class neighborhoods haven’t done any better than those in the inner city. The state Education Department….could point to no data that backs up that assertion. Fox is undeterred….”

Fox should have done more than argue, he should have presented a power point presentation with mountains of facts and data showing that busing has accomplished exactly nothing, test scores and the achievement gap have widened despite every effort to close them and, most importantly, proved the state Education Department wrong. He could have used Murray’s new book:

“…none of the things explaining educational achievement were important, in fact, credentials of the teachers, the curriculum, the extensiveness and newness of the physical facilities, money spent per student…”

Of course, the undeterred Fox might have lost his career if not his life in the process—especially if he mentioned that double-digit IQd students can only achieve up to limited level.

You’ll never please Africans. It’s useless to even try because they are the spoiled children of the planet. Of course black conservatives know this instinctively. In Toronto, Canada they are now opening all-black high schools because blacks have insisted ‘blacks learn better alongside other blacks’. I guess after a few years of failure and the handing out of worthless degrees like confetti, another bunch of race hustlers will start demanding to be educated alongside whites as is happening now in Nashville.

Posted by at 5:33 PM on August 29

It’s true, once the blacks reach a certain percentage of a public school they will demand more Afro-centric curricula and black-style music and dance at school functions. Also, if some of the disadvantaged blacks suffer from low IQs, they will feel frustrated that they can’t keep up with their white classmates, and the blacks will then act out in various ways. They may also resent the whites for being more prosperous or more attractive.

All in all, forced mixing is not the way to go. It puts whites in danger, slows down the pace of the class to accommodate more loud class clowns and slower learners, and causes the blacks to grow up resenting whites as “privileged.”

Look at what going to an elite white university did for Michelle Obama. It made her identify more than ever with her blackness and made her resent whites more than ever. It isn’t pleasant for blacks when they realize they are at the very bottom intellectually of all the races. It hurts their huge egos and makes them jealous and angry, and American society loses.

Brad wrote: This reminds me of a phrase often repeated by my father as my brothers and I were growing up, ”Good never rubs off on bad; bad will always rub off on good”.

Quite true, as evidenced by similar proverbs, such as:

“Adding manure to ice cream ruins the ice cream, and does nothing for the manure.”

“He who sleeps with dogs will wake up with fleas.”

(Y’all feel free to chime in with your own versions!)

The only real solution, of course, is to repeal all compulsory-attendance laws and thereby stop wasting billions of dollars on futile quests to teach the unteachable. Which, BTW, reminds me of the old saying about not trying to teach a pig to sing — it wastes time and annoys the pig.

But Strider, we just got through with four whole days of a convention where speaker after speaker said we needed to “invest” (i.e. spend) more on education, and some of them enhanced that with the caveat that we need to spend more money and put the best teachers in the places where there are the lowest-performing students.

If Thomas Edison would have spent most of his time and money on light bulb designs that didn’t work, all those delegates would have been in the dark. If architects would have spend time and money on designs that failed, then all these boring speakers at the DNC that read the same speech 100 different times would have had no Pepsi Center or Invesco Field to glorify the Obamessiah.

After watching balack hussein last night and seeing firsthand how a White education can actually twist a black man’s curiosity and intellect into knots, I must deduce that blacks are misguided in seeking a White upbringing. It is against natural law.

By their own logic, who will be hit hardest when whites disappear? Blacks! It should be blacks who are soiling their drawers over the coming white minority even more so than we whites ourselves. Do they think the future Mexican majority is going to give to shakes about them?

“They need to know what is going on out there, not just drugs, alcohol, prostitution and new babies.”

Because after all…those things aren’t that bad! Just look at it the Democrat way: things will always get better if you simply adopt a guilty conscience and learn to blame others. Even if you become a victim of it yourself. By all means, turn a blind eye as things grow worse.

How if the flippen heck is “diversity” going to change the above. Why is everyone sticking to the age-old “maybe a little whiteness will rub off” policy.

The above ills unfortunately affect all walks of life, creeds and colors. The thing is though, the majority of white society works hard to protect itself from these problems. We teach our children over and over again that they are bad. And while they still continue to propose a problem for a good portion of us, we continue the fight.

We do NOT consider it a part of our culture and simply look away. Though I suppose this might be changing what with the mainstreaming of deviancy and all.

But if it’s one thing I’ve always said: It is not against the law to be poor. But at the same time, being poor is not an excuse to break the law. This is where the liberals will argue with you.

Yeah, they REALLY need to know what’s going on out there. You mean all that they ever need to learn they can’t simply get from BET or MTV2? Oh no! “I” have to teach them! And if my family is victimized, well, I guess I didn’t do a good enough job!

See how how simple that is? That’s the Democrat way! When the situation fails, it’s always someone else’s fault!

It’s sad, because I always tell people this and it ends up sounding like some phobic, hysteria minded muddle. But it’s literlly the truth. No exaggeration. This mentallity is dangerous to the point of treason.

I’ll never be afraid of any liberal, physically or mentally. Personally speaking that is. I don’t fear race cards and their players. What I DO fear is inaction. And while sites like this are a great way to channel frustration, I’m always looking for bigger and better ways.

Chessplayer is quite right. There is no mention of any possible impact on the whites at schools that accept inner city blacks anywhere in the article. The only issue discussed is the possible impact on inner city blacks. What, prey tell, is so bad about allowing blacks to go to their own schools? The NAACP appears to accept the notion that whites are superior and that blacks need to be associated with them in order to learn.

In an inflammatory letter that compared the rezoning plan to a hangman’s gallows for children, the NAACP told the board to reconsider its vote.

The logic here is irresistible. Blacks are inferior students who require whites in order to succeed. There is no discussion of the effect of such a system on white students but using the same principles used in the NAACP’s argument one would have to conclude that the presence of blacks could only have a negative effect on the white students. Of course, black advocacy groups are quite happy with such an outcome which indicates just how racist and anti-white they are.

Were you the representative for inner city blacks, would you not feel ashamed to make such an argument? Do the NAACP and similar groups not appreciate the implications of their own argument? Interesting, is it not?
