Duke Lacrosse Accuser Writes Memoir

WRAL-TV (Raleigh), August 21, 2008

More news stories on Hate Crimes and Hoaxes

The woman at the center of the scandal that rocked Duke University, Durham and the lives of the three lacrosse players she accused of raping her is coming out with a book.

“The Last Dance for Grace: The Crystal Mangum Story” is scheduled for publication in early October, according to Vincent Clark, a representative for Fire! Products Inc., a film studio that is representing her.

Magnum will donate $1 from the purchase of each book to help battered women, Clark said.

Crystal Gail Mangum was a student enrolled at North Carolina Central University in March 2006 and also worked as an exotic dancer when she performed at a party hosted by several Duke lacrosse players.

It was at that party, Mangum alleged, that three white members of the team trapped her inside a bathroom and raped and sexually assaulted her. David Evans, Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann were later indicted on the allegations.

{snip}

According to a news release Thursday, published reports portrayed Mangum as “a gold-digging hooker searching for a big payday or as an unstable, troubled young woman.”

“The truth about Crystal’s life, her account of what happened on March 13, 2006, accusations and the motives of the people criticizing her were never seriously explored,” the release said.”

A divorced mother of three, Mangum hasn’t spoken publicly about the case, other than granting a single interview in the early days of the investigation.

{snip}

The attorney general’s office—which never pursued a case against Mangum, saying she likely believed the allegations—declined to comment Friday.

Clark said Mangum, who graduated last spring from NCCU, is still living in Raleigh and is looking into law or graduate school.

Civil suits by all the families against this pitiful black should just about ruin her chances to profit from her crimes, and attendent suits against the above sleezy company should bring in a sustantia amount.

I just hope the families sue, and that this evil miscreant confesses something that will prove she lied and is prosecuted.

Too, I’m going to mail stats to several radio and T.V. types, including the number of black on white rapes as opposed to the number of white on black.

Boycott the book, by all means. Not one penny for that particular person… aside from the food stamps and welfare she’ll likely collect as an unemployable divorced mother of three.

Posted by generalquagmyer at 6:24 PM on August 22

All the proceeds from the book sales, the few that will sell, should go to the young men that she accused. I won’t even give my personal opinion of this stripper.

I think I’ll buy her book. I haven’t read a good piece of fiction in quite a while now.

oh now i’ve heard it all. that skank should be forced to give the proceeds from that ghost-written piece of trash she’s coming out with to the innocent victims she purposely accused of rape, whose lives were RUINED. and OH YEA, i love how a dollar from each sale goes to battered women’s groups. no one ever battered her.

Posted by tnecvolfan2001 at 7:56 PM on August 22

We have to keep this woman in the public eye. Whenever the lying anti White MSM comes out with the latest “hate crime” charge, we can respond:

“Oh, what is your source for this - Crystal Mangum the stripper/prostitute who put out the Duke rape hoax”?

Or,

“Excuse me, I would love to hear your latest hate crime story, but I have to meet with Crystal Mangum - I plan to buy her lots of drinks and before the night is over I am sure we can have her accusing you and your news producers with gang raping her”.

“According to a news release Thursday, published reports portrayed Mangum as “a gold-digging hooker searching for a big payday or as an unstable, troubled young woman.””

It’s not an either/or situation. Mangum is BOTH those things — not to mentino several other things that the obscenities-and-insults prohibtions of this site prevent me from calling her here.

Posted by The Incredible Shrinking White Man at 8:25 PM on August 22

Writing a book? I don’t think so. I would imagine Mangum is barely literate. Someone has paid her off and is trying to cash in on the whole ordeal. And they’re probably White, just like the prosecutors and professors who tried to sacrifice those young men on the evil alter of marxism. Why couldn’t the Duke lacrosse team hired a White stripper? Who the hell would want to watch Mangum? See what multiculturalism did to their judgment.

Posted by Flamethrower at 9:14 PM on August 22

Ann Coulter described this woman as a “sperm dump.” It would be nice to think her book will fail and her ability to further defame those three young men will blow up in her face. But she’s black. She won’t get what she deserves; she’ll get rich.

“Writing a book? I don’t think so. I would imagine Mangum is barely literate.”

Maybe Jayson Blair will ghostwrite it. I think he’s available.

Posted by Cassiodorus at 11:02 PM on August 22

The real mystery here is why this vile individual was never charged with any type of crime! As others noted, the various civil lawsuits should absorb any possible profits from this work of obvious fiction…though I can’t imagine who would actually buy this book either way.

Posted by HH at 1:35 AM on August 23

This should be a bizarre story, but alas, it is the kind of thing that happens all too often in the United States of today. O’Jay writing a book, prison inmates guilty of murderous crimes writing childrens books, unbelievably corrupt politicians becoming lobbyists and writing their “memoirs”, it really isn’t much different from what old Crystal Gail is doing. We have become a society of people with deep psychosis of all types. Common sense is lacking, and most people are only capable of a few sound bites at a time before they fall asleep. Reading has gone way down to about 7% of the populace. How much further we will regress, is anyones guess.

Unbeleivable!!!! CNN will do an hour long special, with commentators explaining how white racist caused this highly intelligent woman o conduct herself this way, it was a self defense deal after suffering racism for so many years, CNN will flash a number on screen where you can send donations to help her recover from this terrible racist ordeal.

As I understand it, they asked the agency for two White girls, was told they would get one White girl and a Latina, and ended up with two black girls.

She is just going to continue on with her false claims of being raped and beaten. Hence the 1 dollar share going to charity for battered women. Also, it could mean a nifty tax write-off. She really should have been prosecuted for her false claims, but instead, since she is free. She is going to try and find a way to make money off this by hook, or by crook. To this day, Tawana Brawley also insists there really was a raped, and to this day, she and her family still gripe bitterly that they should have been rich by now. When 0 to 10 black women are raped in this country by black men each year, and 100 white women a day are being raped by black men, these stories of gang rapes by white men, on black women should always be viewed with suspicion. Even though the media is famous for jumping on cases like these, and implying the accused are guilty, before they have even gone to trial. Ms Mangum is a skank, there is no other word for it. Her rape test indicated she had had recent sexual encounters with at least 3 to 4 men, when she arrived at the frathouse, and none of the DNA belonged to the accused. She also became pregnant with her 3rd baby, born out of wedlock, shortly after she leveled her accusations at the Duke boys. So traumatized was she by her rape, that she went and got herself pregnant shortly afterwards. She nearly cost 3 innocent young men their freedom, and cost their famlies a fortune to defend them in court. For this, she belongs in prison, instead of being allowed to continue on with her lie, and still trying to profit off it.

published reports portrayed Mangum as “a gold-digging hooker searching for a big payday or as an unstable, troubled young woman.”

Why not BOTH?

Mangum, who graduated last spring from NCCU, is still living in Raleigh and is looking into law or graduate school.

Graduated? Oh, boy! Now there will be a fine asset to the legal profession. She’ll be right at home, with Michelle Obama and all the rest of that sponging ilk.

It just proves how Affirmative Action has devalued a university degree nowadays to the point of being worthless. You might as well use it for birdcage liner. A kindergarten diploma, pre-1970, is worth more.

These 3 white Duke Lacrosse players looked bad though filing so many frivilous lawsuits themselves against Duke and Durham when the fact still remains that they were all involved in hiring not one but two black strippers for 800.00 for one hour work. Anyway you cut it these white males made all white males look bad by this and then watching her shake her black butt and strip topless.
True white males would never have allowed to occur in the first place but this is Duke and these 3 white males were all from above the Mason Dixon line. Go fig.

NCCU stands for North Carolina Central Univeristy. My husband, who is from this area, said that many years ago NCCU stood for North Caroling Colored University. It was and still is a Black college.

Better yet, buy the excellent book by KC Johnson and Stuart Taylor, “Until Proven Innocent,” about the Duke lacrosse rape hoax.

I do not know why people keep saying these boys requested White girls. They did not!

These so-called young men requested one Latino stripper and they told the agency that they did not care what race of the other stripper was!

They put themselves in such a precarious position.

It is really hard to have that much sympathy for them.

Posted by Mark at 11:28 PM on August 23

She SHOULD be in prison. I hope the falsely accused sue her for the book’s profits, if any.

By the way, if your going to have a party with female “entertainers” make sure they are White. This whole trainwreck would never have happened if the strippers had been White. If as some posters have stated, they did in fact request White strippers, and blacks arrived they should have immediately REFUSED them. Avoid blacks. No exceptions.

You’re right, didn’t catch the error until it was too late, and I had already hit the post button. Guess I got a little too worked up over this story, but it outraged me, and still does.

Buy the book. Find out who published the book. Find out who proof read the book. Find out who really wrote the book. Find out WHO financed the book. Find out the AGENDA of the people who financed, approved, and promoted the book. Read the book. Document the errors and false statements.

Before you confront and destroy the enemy.. you just clearly understand WHO they really are and HOW they operate.

This woman could not publish this book on her own. She is simply a tool of a higher power.

Let’s face it, she is probably more hard up for cash then ever. Jesse Jackson never made good on his promise to pay for the rest of her education, (whether she lost the case or not). And you know, that nobody wants to hire her as a stripper or a callgirl, for fear she might pull the same stunt again. Her only hope is to still keep crying rape, saying justice was not served. Since the accused were found not guilty, they should sue her for slander when the book hits the market, and collect the profits from it. Although hopefully it won’t sell that well anyway. But she will probably be booked on every talk show known to man.

Posted by at 10:21 AM on August 24

I beleive she has a good chance of becoming a lawyer, after all she has proven she is a liar, the number one requirement to be successful in that profession.

Posted by at 12:06 PM on August 24

Magnum may well be able to have a bit of fiction ghost-written for her, but the day she is able to pass a state Bar exam, I will buy a copy of “her” book and eat it.

As an aside, doesn’t a prior felony conviction exclude one from the Bar on grounds of “moral turpitude”?

Posted by Michael C. Scott at 3:31 PM on August 24

I agree that these guys were not choir boys. What color the “dancers” were is of little import. If they had spent more time doing what their parents were paying out the yingyang for them to do instead of behaving like spraying Tom cats, they never would have wound up in the situation.
There is no doubt that the girl created a Tawana Brawley type hoax but if a white “dancer” had accused them of rape, would we have believed it without question? The unattractiveness of the woman was irrelevant. Get these young guys hammered enough and they’ll bang anything that has a pulse. I too find it hard to sympathize with them.

We send our kids to college at great expense for them to pursue studies not to spend most of their time drinking and getting laid. College is thirteenth and fourteenth grade to many of these kids. If possible send them to a local community college for two years until maybe they acquire some maturity. IF not so be it. Let them go to a trade school. We still need talented people with skills that don’t require ponying up eighty grand (a conservative estimate) for four years.

Posted by Taurus689 at 3:05 AM on August 25

I’d like to see a sample of Crystal Mangum’s writing skills from her college work. I’d wager it looks like something a small child would come up with.

Posted by Cliff Yablonski at 8:54 AM on August 25

Just a simple question, really. Why has this female not been prosecuted for her actions? Surely it’s not because the prosecutors are afraid of a tribal outcry from the likes of shamans like Jesse and Al…

———————————————————————————————-
Shortly after the story broke, I found myself compelled to read message boards regarding the supposed crime. And blacks were all over the boards, insisting it was true. Not only believing it, but WANTING to believe it with everything in them. Even with the nearly non-existant crime stats of white on black rape in this country, they were insisting that white men rape black women all of the time, and have been doing so since slavery.
They were also insisting the young hard-working, black girls go away to college, only to become victims of gang rapes, by drunken white males on a regular basis. One of them even brought up Ted Bundy, insisting that he raped, and murdered numerous young black college coeds, even though every single one of his victims were white.
Rather than being appalled by stories like the Duke scandal, many blacks almost seem gleeful about them. They delight in claiming that white male prey upon black females. They love nothing more than playing the victim, and continuing on with their desire to impose white guilt on all of us.

————————————————————————————————-
I thoroughly disagree! It was because the accuser was a black stripper, and the accused were white boys, from relatively well-off families, that Nifong so doggedly persued this case on almost no evidence, in an attempt to pander to black voters in Durham.
Had the girl been White, you would not had Jesse Jackson standing out front of the frathouse, with his black followers beating pots and pans and demanding they have those boy’s heads, before the case had even gotten off the ground.

You would also not have had the black panthers pushing and shoving their way on campus.
This case was built up on zero evidence, and supported only by race and class issues, that the media pounced on in a feeding frenzy.

Had she been white, the charges would have been thrown out of court immediately, when it was learned that the DNA found on her was connected to outside parties. And that one of the accused was seen an ATM machine, at the time he was supposedly violently raping the accuser.

The only thing holding that case together was race, and an unscrupulous DA.

I heard many Blacks repeat the very phrase you have, that the guys were not choir boys—-So what? Does that make it okay to nearly destroy their lives on false trumped up charges of rape, by an accuser who put them to shame where lack of morals go? A hooker, and stripper, and an obvious liar? I think not!

Had the accuser been white, this would barely have registered a blip on the radar screen.

Posted by at 1:46 PM on August 25

If the publishing company for this book thinks they are going to make a bazillion dollars off the sales, they’ve got some pretty wacky people working for them. Everybody (or I should say everybody who has any intelligence) knows this whole story and how the DA tried to railroad those students. Nobody, including myself wants to hear anything this woman says because we already know that it’s going to be bogus.

So if the publishing company wants to waste their money - let em. I’d say the only people who might be interested in buying this book, don’t usually set foot in bookstores anyway. I can see this book going to the $5.00 table at Walmart real quick.

Reply to Taurus689:

You are missing the point with your smug self-righteousness. These men were FALSELY ACCUSED of committing a serious crime. The D.A. went out of its way to get them. They were WRONGED!

Your view that the color of the “dancers” is of little import is ludicrous. This BECAME a major issue solely because the women was black. I doubt ANYONE would ever have even heard of this “case” if the girl was White. The media wouldn’t have cared.

Posted by at 6:40 PM on August 25

Taurus 689:

I agree with you completely. All of you who are going on the warpath defending these boys should stop it!

While I am glad that they were exonerated from any wrongdoing, the fact is that these boys had no business underage drinking, calling strippers(Whores) to their houses and dancing and engaging in lurid, perverted wanton activities with them. They should have been studying, acting like normal students and behaved themselves! They brought this mess largely on themselves!

An d to the posters who argues that if the victim had been White, we would have not have heard anything about this. I largely disagree!

I agree, if she were a lower income or poor White woman, we would not have heard about the crime. However, as someone who sued to work in college admisssions, if she was an upscale or wealthy student (and many of these White students and some Blacks for that matter)at Duke Univeristy are, we would have certainly heard about this crime!

They were upscale, spoiled, horny, oversexed brats! Hopefully they have learned their lesson!

Posted by Virginia at 9:04 PM on August 25

That the Duke students were very foolish was certain. There is a world of difference between a “party” involving a few guys watching some rented movies while drinking beer and eating pizza, and a debauched Baccanalian event involving drunk strippers. They did much of the work to put themselves in the position in which they ended up.

That said, they were young. Young people often make mistakes. The mistakes these young men made included inviting strangers into their home when alcohol was involved. They included being white male university students from prosperous families trusting a lower-class black woman of largely-unknown but obviously extremely dubious moral character. These were mistakes, but not the criminal acts for which they were falsely accused by Magnum and maliciously prosecuted by Nifong in spite of a mountain of exculpatory evidence.

Posted by Michael C. Scott at 12:48 PM on August 26

To Virginia: I doubt they were so horny when they saw what they got. They requested 2 white girls, but were told they would send them one white girl, and one Latina, and instead received two very unattractive black females. One of whom was so stoned, she could barely even dance. Most of the guys were complaining they wanted their money back anyway. And yes, I am sure they learned their lesson, as well as many young white males in this country did. That being, if they insist on having strippers perform for a frat party, to refuse any black ones who show up at their door.

Posted by Virginia at 9:04 PM on August 25

So that means it’s OK to falsely charge them with rape and send them to prison for 30 years—to teach them a lesson?

Whether their behavior was foolish, boorish or not DOES NOT give that black stripper and the idiot DA the right to FALSELY accuse those young men of rape. Was it OK with you that Nifong sat on the DNA evidence that would have exonerated them?

“…Furthermore, the university’s ‘investigation of the lacrosse team found something quite different from the image of drunken, racist animals that the press and faculty members were trying to promote:

The committee examining the lacrosse culture found no evidence that team members were racist or sexist. The players were regarded by their professors…to be ‘academically responsible students.’… ‘By all accounts, the lacrosse players are a cohesive, hard working, disciplined, and respectful athletic team,’ the report said. ‘Their behavior on trips is described as exemplary. Players clean the team bus before disembarking. Airline personnel have complimented them for their behavior. They observe curfews. They obey the team’s no alcohol rule before games. They are respectful of people who serve the team, including bus drivers, airline personnel, trainers, the equipment manager, the team manager, and the groundskeeper. Finally, the lacrosse program has a 100% graduation rate.’…”

http://www.amren.com/mtnews/archives/2006/09/dukes_reichstag.php

How do you think those boys feel now?

Here’s the ‘lesson’ they learned:

“….This woman [the accuser] has destroyed everything I worked for in my life,’ David Evans, 23, of Bethesda, Md., said on CBS’s ‘60 Minutes.’

‘Your whole life, you try to … stay on the right path and to do the right things. And someone can come along and take it all away … just by pointing their finger,’ Seligmann said…”

Seligmann has this to say about Nifong:

“…I’ll never accept an apology from him,… ‘It’s been too hard of a year.’… his heart, especially after the past year, is in law….Seligmann says he and the two accused teammates plan to one day work with the Innocence Project…[h]is goal, he says, is to work toward making sure that something like the Duke case never happens again, that innocent people never have to go through what he went through, regardless of their financial situation…”

Yeah, pretty tough lesson they learned, wouldn’t you say—for being upscale, horny, spoiled brats. Would that all rich, spoiled brats have to go through the same thing, might take ‘em down a peg or two.

Now, what kind of lesson should the accuser have to learn for the damage she caused to those innocent boys’ lives?

Bon

Posted by BonBon at 10:40 PM on August 26

Well said Bon! The mind-set, especially among blacks is that it is a far greater sin to be white wealthy and privleged, rather than part of the black under-class, even if you have a criminal record, and are a hypersexual baby mama, who supports herself through stripping and prostitution? Yes, it is far more shocking that college aged white males, at their hormonal peaks, would actually entertain the thought of watching a couple of strippers. Forget the fact, that they probably invisoned a couple of beauties straight out of Baywatch, and instead were greeted by two seedy low-rent , black stripper/hookers.
They weren’t acting as choirboys, at the moment, punish them severely! Funny how some talk about how these boys were wasting the money, their parents invested in their educations, while ignoring how much money was wasted, in being forced to defend them in court because of a lying hooker, and greedy DA.

Posted by at 7:14 AM on August 27

A positive note of this is that now, if not before, we have some young white men who are probably no nonger interested in the benefits of diversity and are more aware of their white color. An added bonus here, is that they may one day become influential men in various government positions and will no doubt remember the willingness of blacks (and some whites) to crucify them.

Posted by Skip at 10:10 AM on August 27

Choir boys? Is that how young white males, have to behave these days in order to escape being perscuted and prosecuted, by blacks who want to take them for every last penny? Ironic, considering the HIV rate among blacks. Apparently there is a double-standard that suggests if you’re black can sleep around left and right, and collect an assortment of STD’s. But whites need to behave as monks, in order to escape a witch-hunt. Meanwhile, Crystal Gale Mangum, will probably never know, who fathered her last child, unless she makes an appearance on the Maurie Povich show.

Posted by at 8:21 PM on August 27

People keep asking “why this vile individual was never charged with any type of crime.”

The attorney general pretty much stated why. In the press conference at which he proclaimed the innocence of the three accused young men, he said that Ms. Mangum kept changing her story and that she seemed to sincerely believe that her story was true.

In other words, she’s a psycho nutcase. It would have been a waste of time to prosecute her since a verdict of Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity or Mental Defect would be a foregone conclusion.

“Apparently there is a double-standard that suggests if you’re black can sleep around left and right, and collect an assortment of STD’s. But whites need to behave as monks, in order to escape a witch-hunt.”

Come now! You’re exaggerating by phrasing this in terms of extremes. You don’t have to be a monk to keep out of trouble. But you do need to have some common sense.

A little common sense = no lying hooker & no greedy DA therefore no money either tuition or legal expenses being wasted.

Virginia and Taurus 689:

You two are the voices of reason.

While these boys were found not guilty and that was a good thing, the fact is that they were little horny, perverted pampered daddy’s boys who were engaging in illegal behavior by under age drinking, dancing with prostitutes and carrying on like raucous animals!

They have no one to blame but themselves!

Posted by Gary at 4:53 PM on August 31

” Furthermore the University’s investigation of the lacrosse team found something quite different from the image of drunken, racist animals that the press and faculty members promote.”

BonBon:

You are correct about this. What they found out is that a number of these young men dated Asian, Latino and Black women. Reade Seligman was known to be involved with a Black woman according to the New York Times and other papers.

And the fact that the boys requested a Latino stripper and did not care what race the other stripper was demonstrated that these boys were (and still are) probably not racially conscious White men!

While I am glad that were cleared of any wrongdoing, I like Taurus and Virginia stated, we should not spend too much time crying bitter alligator tears over these young men.

They are probably a bunch of country club elitists anyway.

I’m in agreement with you on that. They let trouble walk in the moment they opened the door to those hookers. They didn’t have to. While they got more than they bargained for, the fact remains that they willingly (and foolishly) let themselves in for it. Too many posters here have made them out to be some sort of heros or martyrs for our “cause”. Far from it! They are not representatives of Amren or any kind of WNs. In fact, it’s far more likely that they wouldn’t - even today, after all they’ve been through - want to be seen standing next to you.

So, let’s keep this in perspective.

If they were any kind of martyrs for the white cause, they would have spoken out by now. They’ve certainly had plenty of time and plenty of publicity to be able to do so. But not a word.

Very good point. These so-called young men do not represent White nationlaism in any way!
