ICI Claims Article Was ‘Racially Offensive’

The Immigrant Council of Ireland (ICI) is to make an official complaint to the Garda Síochána today about the publication of what it considers to be a racially offensive article that appeared in the Irish Independent last week.
The ICI said it believed the publication of the article, ” Africa is giving nothing to anyone—apart from AIDS”, which was written by columnist Kevin Myers and published last Thursday, breached Section 2 of the Prohibition of Incitement to Hatred Act 1989.
Section 2 of the Act says it is an offence to publish or distribute written material if it is threatening, abusive or insulting and intended to, or having regarding to all of the circumstances, is likely to, stir up hatred.
In the article, Mr Myers questioned whether it was moral to save an Ethiopian child from starvation, given that it could grow up to face poverty, hunger, violence and possible sexual abuse.
He also described Africa as “almost an entire continent of sexually hyperactive indigents, with tens of millions of people who only survive because of help from the outside world.”
The ICI said it also intends to lodge an official complaint about the article with the National Consultative Committee on Racism and Interculturalism.
“We believe the published article does not just overstep the boundary of common decency—it triple jumps right past that—but it also crosses the legal boundaries,” said the council’s chief executive, Denise Charlton.
“The issue at stake here has nothing to do with freedom of speech or expression. It is about respect for, and the upholding of, Ireland’s laws.
“Journalism, like any other profession, operates within the framework of the rule of law in Ireland,” added Ms Charlton.

I just KNEW this was going to happen. There is no way that such an honest and politically-incorrect article would go unnoticed by the liberal elites, who would then seek to punish the author and/or the publisher. In the former Soviet Union, wasn’t similar punishment dealt out to those who violated and/or openly questioned communist practices? So much for democracy in the western world! Hate crime legislation is the worst form of tyrrany, pure and simple. Por exemplo: “…is likely to…”?!? What the &*%$ kind of legal standard is that? And “hatred”? Can this word ever be defined? And hatred by whom - a member of the offended ethnicity or by someone who may learn to dislike said ethnicity based on the offending statement? Or both?
Free and honest speech is prohibited de jure in Europe and de facto in the USA. The only we don’t have hate crime laws on the books in America is that such laws would be redundant because the population is already too afraid to speak the truth for fear of professional and societal backlash. We are rational human beings here, please give us any evidence that this article is blatantly hatred inciting by lying and creating untruths to harm others. Please I really would like to see some answers to this article that makes factual statements that persuade me to see Africa as more than a disease ridden, out of control polulation, severely abused children, run down, and starvation pest hole of the world. That Myers article is worth a read; it’s like a drunken rant, one of probably thousands that people all over the UK spew out in their cups every day. That’s why it got so much attention; people recognize it, it all sounds familiar. He merely said, sober & openly, what many others are thinking or whispering to their closest friends, but afraid to say publicly.
You know you’ve arrived very close to the truth when death threats rain down on your head.

That is doesn’t even seem to occur to these people, that these outrageous “hate-speech” laws, etc., are the very antithesis of the free-speech and enlightenment the west has preached for centuries, is beyond ironic. The Irish, for the most part, have a peculiar and curious affinity for Africa and the Africans. One need only hear the hysterical rantings of the loathsome singer Bono to realize the depths of the psychlogical manifestation of guilt that plague the Irish race.
During my trips to Ireland over the years, I have engaged in many heated pub arguments with Irishmen who all too were eager to hurl insults at so called “racist” America. I managed to more than hold my own and counter their arguments quite easily as their knowledge of American history is very limited and filled with propaganda. Most Irish have not lived amongst blacks and have not experienced the rampant crime of a Detroit or Watts.
One thing that will set off any Irishman is when you tell them how disgraceful it was that their nation remained neutral in World War II. That bit of information absolutely ruins the taste of their Guinness!

Ireland had a thing called benevolent neutrality that favoured the allies. For one as example German aircraft shot down on the island were immediatly interned while alied airmen were returned to Britain.
Also several hundred thousand Irishmen volunteered for the British Army during World War II (More Catholics in Northern Ireland jioned up than so called Loyalists for the War depite Catholics being a minority in that statelet) and eight of them were awarded Victoria Crosses.

That article was one of the best articles on Africa I have read in a respectable publication since forever.
There is no greater friend to Tyranny than the UN relief truck.
Nothing angers me more then hearing US officials denounce Mugabe but then in the same breath report that food aid will still be provided. Every ton of grain we ship to them is another bullet in the head of a farmer. Would they have launched their little ethnic cleansing campaign if they knew they themselves would starve? We ship them food which is confiscated by the government and they distributed to party supporters.
The same thing is done in North Korea, where the general population eat only after the Army is well fed.

Liar. Allied airmen were treated for injuries and allowed to return to Britain. Axis combatants were interned in POW camps.

I don’t think that anyone would trust a doctor or nurse with a degree from a Nigerian or South African university anymore. The Nigerians have a well-deserved reputation for fraud, while South African educational centres are going out of their way to “prove” to the rest of the world that they can perform as well as whitey by dumbing down the courses. Besides, exactly how many competent doctors would you find among a population with average IQ 70 anyway, considering it takes an IQ of about 130 to become a doctor in competent Western medical schools?
Africans produce some good football players, but they are hardly “dominating all groups”. In the recent UEFA Champions League match, France most resembled a team from Africa and were bundled out early, while the finals were contested by two predominately white teams Germany and Spain. The player of the tournament was Ronaldo, a white Portuguese.
And you mention some cultural things. Ho hum, hardly a necessary part of survival nowadays and of interest only to a few.
For these great cultural enrichments the Western world sends about $50 billion per year in direct foreign aid, and spends an unknown amount, probably in the hundreds of billions, to house immigrants, refugees and the shiftless black population in their countries.
So, who gets the better part of the deal?

Dear Occam,
Africans dominate European Soccer? This is patently untrue.
They dominate all sports? Is this true? I don’t think so, but even if it were true that the Black gene pool concentrates a greater proportion of primal and animal strengths, thereby producing more athletes on average than White or Asian bloodlines, could this be consider a gift to humanity?
Western hospitals are sustained by large numbers African Doctors and Nurses? This is false.
Western industries are largely spearheaded by African Engineers? What? As it happens my job requires that I interact with a lot of engineers. Not surprisingly, the relative quality of individual engineers varies dramatically. Some are highly focused and take real pride in stamping their calculations. Others live for boilerplate solutions and seal the same work for different jobs. But the worst kinds are the ones that love the roundtables, and the tailored suits, and the vacuous business lunches where they talk about nothing before complaining about their meals to the pretty white waitresses, because sans complaints they got nothing to offer anybody.
These are the engineers who thought they finished their work when they got their degree. These are the engineers who harass the secretary while everybody tiptoes around their borderline misconduct. These are the engineers whose work goes through a dozen revisions before approval, and though the final product bears only their name, it should rightly have the reviewing engineer’s names attached as well. Who are these amazing men who cannot do, and yet cannot be done away with? I’ll let you take a guess at that one, Occam.
African art is a substantial gift to the cultures of the West? Arguable I suppose, but how much lifetime does one spend gazing at tribal masks, necklaces and body mutilation? And how enhanced is ones life by that brief experience?
Music? There are great Black musicians, but the musical traditions that they primarily draw from are Western. The instruments, studio equipment, written music, notes and scales, metronomes, the simple organization of music and words into a song itself and not a chant or repetitive rhythm… all these things are Western. If music is to be attributed to a race, and if that race gifted the world with music and needs praise for its efforts, you’d be right in apportioning your thanks, disproportionately, to the West and to White men.

But now, after reading the statement issued by ICI, I am wondering if the whole thing wasn’t orchestrated to promote Hate Speech Laws in Ireland.
I think the possibility warrants consideration, even if, for the time being, we should withhold final assent.

I can’t remember the scientist who came up with the r-K life history spectrum, but Rushton applied to to race. Since blacks are more r and whites are more K, if a K population applies K maintenance to an r group, the r population will swell quickly. The r’s reproduce so quickly because they have to, because in order to keep their total numbers stable, they have to procreate so much. With white aid, the raison d’etre for prodigious procreation goes away, but the procreation does not.

Actually Newgrange, you are mistaken on this one. Ireland did indeed have seperate internment camps for both Allied and German fliers. It was located in Naas, outside of Dublin. Granted, Allied fliers received more favorable treatment overall, but nonetheless, Ireland did have these camps. My Dad, who lived in Ireland during the war near the site, told me this bit of history and said that the POW’s were even allowed out into the local village pubs on occasion, provided they conducted themselves as gentlemen.
There was a movie made a few years back about this very subject called “The Brylcreem Boys,” why don’t you rent it sometime, you will learn something.
By the way, De Valera soiled his reputation a bit by foolishly signing a book of condolence in regards to the death of Hitler. This was not well received at the time.

So why assume that the article told the truth? After all many trained physicians and nurses are wooed to the West at an alarming rate annually. The same for engineers too.
Africa also gives to the world great athletes—distance runners and soccer players. They dominate all other groups.
African popular music is greatly sought after in Europe and the best musicians from from those expert at kora playing to those who are experts at Afropop have become wealthy given the world demand for their music.
And there’s traditional and modern African art which fetches lots of money in the West, etc. etc.
I believe in free expression but I also believe in the truth.

Alarming number of doctors and engineers from Africa in the UK? More alarming are the the number of African asylum seekers living off public assistance.
Do Africans dominate skiing, weigh-lifting, swimming, polo, hockey, iceskating, gymnastics, cycling etc..etc..etc? In any case, I am fine with letting Kenyans represent Kenya in the Olympics, we do not need them in the west.
As for African music, Europeans are perfectly capable of making excellent music themselves, and have been for centuries. For example: Beethoven, and no he was not part black.
For those who like African art let them buy it, that doesn’t mean Europeans are duty bound to let Africans swamp their continent.

Europeans are as dumb as a gallon of paint, so it’s not surprising a handful of them like African music. frican “art” can hardly be called “art” except by the same sorry souls who consider “modern art” to be “art”.

This law assassinates freedom of speech - which apparently was its purpose.
It also disallows the public from hearing fundamentally important truths about the ultimate results of public expenditure of taxpayer funds - in other words, this law also betrays the very citizenry law itself exists to protect.
Where are the Irish with guts today? - To allow the existence of such a despicable law?
