Cesar Chavez Day.

That’s what Sen. Barack Obama is endorsing: A national holiday in honor of the late, legendary activist for farm-worker rights (1927-1993), pictured here.

Today is Chavez’s birthday—and Sen. Hillary Clinton’s campaign was first to draw attention to that this morning, with a statement celebrating the 81st anniverary of Chavez’s birth. But the senator from Illinois one-upped the senator from New York in joining the call for a new national holiday to commemorate the father of the United Farm Workers.

“As farmworkers and laborers across America continue to struggle for fair treatment and fair wages, we find strength in what Cesar Chavez accomplished so many years ago,” Obama said in a statement released by his campaign today. “And we should honor him for what he’s taught us about making America a stronger, more just, and more prosperous nation.

“That’s why I support the call to make Cesar Chavez’s birthday a national holiday. It’s time to recognize the contributions of this American icon to the ongoing efforts to perfect our union. “

Clinton said, in a statement released today: “Today, I join millions of Americans in commemorating the life of one of our great civil rights leaders, Cesar Chavez. Driven by his strong desire to ensure better quality of life for migrant farm workers across the country, Chavez helped found—along with Dolores Huerta—the United Farm Workers of America, arguably one of the first effective farm workers’ union in the United States.”

Clinton said of Chavez: “Under his leadership—highlighted by nonviolent protest—thousands of farmers across the country were able to secure improved wages and benefits, humane living and working conditions, and better job security. Through his lifetime of service, he has paved the way for many, and provided inspiration for countless others.

{snip}

“His life and legacy are important for us all to remember,” Obama said. “From his beginnings as a farmworker picking lettuce and beets in the American Southwest, Cesar Chavez rose to help found the United Farm Workers, providing hundreds of thousands of people with better working conditions and the chance to live a better life.

{snip}

“Chavez left a legacy as an educator, environmentalist, and a civil rights leader,” Obama said. “And his cause lives on. “

Yes, Obama is indeed a puppet of the crowd bent on destroying America, the West, Whites. A puppet just like Bush, Clinton, Kennedy, McClain, all of them.

Did they (the sorta black guy and the sorta woman guy) praise Chavez for opposing illegal immigration, or is that too radical for the jackass party? I guess when they erect his monument on the DC mall, they can carefully edit his quotations before carving, like with Jefferson.

This campaign is shaping up as great entertainment. Just what we need as we sink into the frigid waters of the North Atlantic.

I got a call from a pollster asking me how probable it was that I would vote in the upcoming general election. I’d tell you what I told him, but the genteel censor of this website would never let it by.

At least I got rid of the pollster. Now I have to wait to see if I’ll be extraordinarily rendered to Guantanamo.

Once again Hispandering Obama proves how little he knows about American history. Cesar Chavez was adamantly against Mexican illegals, because he knew they would undermine the gains he had won for the farm workers with his union. Mexicans universally worship this man’s memory as if he were a God, oblivious to his stand against illegals…

Oh for goodness’ sake. What makes farmers any more important than anyone else? Why should farmers get subsidies and higher wages than they deserve, while all the rest of us have to work for a living? I see no point in having extra, special rights for farmers, and I don’t think Cesar Chavez even did a good thing. Nevertheless, obama wants to make another minority have their own special day in the USA, this at a time where no white man, no matter how great, has been given such a day. (save columbus, who is normally renamed ‘native american day’ by the PC crowd). This reminds me of the corrupt roman ages when every month was named after a worthless emperor or his wife, and statues and palaces were made everywhere extolling their grandeur, since they could no longer get respect through achievement.

Obama wants a national holiday for Cesar Chavez, and voters who look like CC want Hillary over him? Oh the irony.

Also ironic about both of them praising CC is that CC was against open borders and amnesty, and illegal immigration.

Sure..MLK and Caesar..they are black and mexican icons. Not Americans. THey have nothing to do with the formation of America. The Marxist enablers in Washington took my Washington and Lincoln and gave me a fraud instead to ensure white guilt.
No more Third World holidays U.S. government or I’m going to start whistling Dixie.

Posted by Quinn at 6:49 PM on April 1

This is more proof that white history is being erased while non-white history is replacing it. Soon Chavez will hold a higher place than Washington or Jefferson. I don’t know how much more proof white people need to see that we’re under attack? The fact that Obama is pushing this is evidence of Obama’s anti-white nature. God, I hope Obama wins in 2008.

“Chavez left a legacy as an educator, environmentalist, and a civil rights leader,” Obama said. “And his cause lives on. “

TRANSLATION:
Chaves left a legacy as a marxist, racist, anti-American. Of course, Obama would want us to celebrate his birthday.

I think I’m eventually going to settle on an island in the carribean. This country is not worth saving anymore.

“That’s why I support the call to make Cesar Chavez’s birthday a national holiday. It’s time to recognize the contributions of this American icon to the ongoing efforts to perfect our union. “

Either Obama is completely insincere or crazy like a fox.

“ongoing efforts to perfect our union”?!?!

But the country is being DISMANTLED as we speak!!!!!!!!!!

And he’s all for it!!!!!!

Not to mention the fact that our public schools no longer educate, but are holding cells and reformatories (well, not exactly reformatories; would that they were. But you get my point) for our deranged, juvenile criminals and assorted illiterates.

So, perhaps what he means by “untion” is MexAmerAnda! A new tri-partite union with a goofy name; which would be in honor of those goofy, iliterate, names like - Keeshawn, etc.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!

Over 120 years ago Neitzsche said “We are entering the Age of Shamelessness.”

Today we can say, “We are entering an Age of Depravity.”

To hell with any - ANY - more talk about “Racism”! It’s high time we talk about the REAL “ism” destroying this country, ie;

Nincompoopism!

America has become a “civil rights” dictatorship.

Posted by Don't Hail Cesar! at 7:35 PM on April 1

These people are thugs. Assaulting, intimidating, and even killing employees who want to work, and sabotaging company vehicles and property. Oh, I’m sorry, I meant to say these people are victims of oppression and evil brutality… Guess who controls the media?

Posted by at 7:36 PM on April 1

Fine. Now how about a national holiday for R. E. Lee or George Marshall? I think they both have sterling qualifications.

Posted by Xenophon at 7:38 PM on April 1

“Chavez left a legacy as an educator, environmentalist, and a civil rights leader,” Obama said.

Hey ‘Bama, you forgot “communist” and “anti-white agitator”.

“And his cause lives on.“

OK, this part is true. Unfortunately.

If Obama gets elected, this will be the tip of the iceberg.

Beginning with the Democratic convention and going through at least the end of January, we are going to be subjected to non-stop MSM propaganda, replete with a rehash of the whole slavery thing, War Between the States, Jim Crow, the “Civil Rights” movement and MLK ad nauseam. And then we get treated to another four weeks of Black History Month in February.

Of course, if Hillary somehow manages to come out on top we’ll then be treated to the history of this country’s oppression of women, the 19th Amendment and Roe v. Wade. But I think that would be relatively palatable.

If Obama wins the Democratic nomination, I plan on watching very little TV, reading very few newspapers or magazines, and generally trying to withdraw from “mainstream” society as much as possible. Wake me up when 2012 gets here.

Ceasar Chavez was also strongly opposed to illegal immigration, since it undermined his lifes work, everybody always seems to leave that part out.

Posted by PincheGabacho at 8:00 PM on April 1

I’ve noticed that Chavez’s rather enlightened views on immigration, both legal and illegal, were absent from Obama’s and Clinton’s praise of him.

Posted by Pro-White Lefty at 8:07 PM on April 1

Obama is even more of a marxist than Hillary.

Posted by at 8:12 PM on April 1

Too bad Chavez’s birthday wasn’t a day later.

It’d make him be seen as the April Fool he was.

Posted by Annoyed In Illinois at 8:26 PM on April 1

From the perspective of Obama and Hillary, it’s all about pandering to Hispanic voters. Yet, I must confess that naming a holiday after Cesar Chavez is far less offensive to me than naming one after MLK. Besides, Chavez was an opponent of illegal immigration because it lowered wages for the farm workers loyal to him.

Posted by Old Victorian at 8:27 PM on April 1

Of course Obama and Clinton are engaging in one-upmanship over Chavez - they want the mexican vote.

Posted by Lee at 8:57 PM on April 1

Use Martin Luther King Day.

Posted by the Soviet Republic of New Jersey at 9:03 PM on April 1

Chavez was against illegal aliens from Mexico taking farm jobs for lower wages versus legal immigrant farm workers that were unionized. Of course, now, the United Farm Workers have an 11% unemployment rate. Double speak Obama wants to legalize all illegal alien criminals in the U.S. This, nut wants a coalition of Hispanic and Blacks against Whites, and when we are not looking, sneak in muslims from the Nation of Islam to create a monster, in my opinion.

Posted by at 9:24 PM on April 1

Why a holiday for Chavez for “helping farmers across the country to secure improved wages” but none for Jefferson who helped establish the country in which all these farms are located in the first place?

Posted by Tim in Indiana at 9:28 PM on April 1

“As farmworkers and laborers across America continue to struggle for fair treatment and fair wages.”

If you want fair wages for farm workers, then simply stop massive immigration of Mexican wage-slaves. Lack of cheap labor will finally force the growers to pay FAIR WAGES. But no, in this Orwellian world, where up is down, we praise Cesar Chavez, while making sure that we keep the “wage-slave-pipeline” open in order to keep wages down and grower profits up. It’s all about $$$$$

Posted by at 9:28 PM on April 1

Obama is a stealth candidate. A mucher bigger, and far more dangerous, phoney than Clinton. He will say and do whatever he needs to get elected. He is given a pass. And there are an awful lot of breathtakingly stupid whites who are supporting him.

Read this from the “Washington Times”, and forward to as many people as you possibly can:

I thought Cesar Chavez’s National Holiday was named Labor Day?

Posted by Delano Man at 10:45 PM on April 1

If you want to see what kind of cozy company Chavez kept, here’s a line from the UFW website:

Cesar Chavez completed his 36-day Fast for Life on August 21, 1988. The Reverend Jesse Jackson took up where Cesar left off, fasting on water for three days before passing on the fast to celebrities and leaders. The fast was passed to Martin Sheen, actor; the Reverend J. Lowery, President SCLC; Edward Olmos, actor; Emilio Estevez, actor; Kerry Kennedy, daughter of Robert Kennedy, Peter Chacon, legislator, Julie Carmen, actress; Danny Glover, actor; Carly Simon, singer; and Whoopi Goldberg, actress.

He was against illegal aliens who would ” drive down ” the higher wages he had fought for so long, he would support either one of these communists. A national holiday because he was ” brown” ? I think that I will puke.

Posted by Michigan patriot at 11:07 PM on April 1

Why don’t we first work on getting a holiday honoring the birth of George Washington. Then maybe we can get around to a Cesar Chavez day.

Posted by Greg at 12:46 AM on April 2

Oh my God. I can barely even manage to keep myself from vomiting after reading this garbage. Honestly, I think that the America of 2008 DESERVES Barack Obama, because he embodies almost perfectly what America had become: his “success” isn’t based on genuine performance, but instead only on careful use of soundbites, catchy one-liners, and articulate phrases that make people feel warm and fuzzy inside. This is EXACTLY what America is today, a nation that values a glib tongue and “sleight of hand” tactics over serious commitment, diligence, and ability. Simply put: He’s an ACTOR, not a leader.

And, since America itself has become a racially-mixed, jungle-like nation, it makes perfect sense that you should have a mongrel as your president…

Posted by Historama at 12:53 AM on April 2

Chavez was a chicano who organized phillipinos. They were the only ones picking the grapes. To do this he encouraged violence against illegal imigrants mostly from mexico who tried to work in the fields. He also lobbied against Illegals, mostly from mexico. I cannot think of anyone who has fought against mexicans as much as mr. Chavez.
This would be like mexico having a holiday honoring Winfield Scott and calling it Liberation day.

Posted by flyingtiger at 1:03 AM on April 2

By the time Obama has finished being president, Whites will finally know that they are White.

Hopefully that realization won’t come too late for it to mean something.

Posted by H. Dumpty at 1:17 AM on April 2

I think a better way for Obama to honor Chavez would be to adopt his views on immigration. He was totally opposed to illegal immigration and unlimited legal immigration. This is pure politics on Senator Obama’s part—he wants to take the Hispanic vote from McCain and Hilary.

Posted by Sardonicus at 7:49 AM on April 2

Great! And how about national holidays for the following: teachers, computer geeks, sanitation workers, elevator operators (any of those left around?), ice cream vendors, zoo keepers, tap dancers, circus fat ladies, hair stylists, librarians, mardi gras revelers, mine workers, real estate brokers, best boys on movie sets, tattoo artists, people who go barefoot, baby sitters, notary publics, opera singers, stock boys in grocery stores, physical therapists, coin collectors, and Me!

Lots of great posts, but these in particular, well, let’s just say I’m glad AR is around.

Having said that, and aside from the obvious display of common sense and thoughtfulness, we still have a way to go. We’re nowhere near where we need to be in terms of organization; and we still need clearer principles to organize ourselves around. It is somewhat frustrating, though perhaps idle to regret, the fact that we, like just about any other group in world history, will really kick into gear only after we reach the bottom of the pain and misery we’re willing to tolerate.

But it’s encouraging that certain people are NOT waiting till the last minute. Things ARE happening, a change IS in the air, one can feel it.

I want my own day too….I’m one of the unsung Americans who for decades have been supporting lazy good for nothings that collect my tax dollars for welfare and all those plush benefits I have busted my hump for….and what do I have….nothing but more bills and taxes to pay while they live in the lap of luxury….I WANT A LYDIA DAY….WHAT DO YOU SAY???

This is like “1984” when Winston Smith is tasked to create a hero and invents Comrade Ogilvy, the perfect man,who struggles endlessly for good and truth! Chavez is being “Ogilvy-ed”. Environmentalist??? What next,he fought against “sexism”?? And he was FOR gun control!

I am so sick and tired of this “election” pandering! We’re looking at the Three Stooges or the Three Blind Mice (Obama, Clinton and McCain) who will “promise” anything to “win” this election and will do absolutely nothing for the good of America or the American people!

These three corporate-selected “candidates” are nothing but political hacks looking out for their own best interests; and all three are “open” to open borders and more, more and more immigration (legal and illegal). Empty suits with empty promises… I don’t trust any of them.

As Mike Gravel said… Just follow the money!

White Conservative Orthodox/Anglicans, who loved European culture.

The most clearly observable numerical minority of legal groups out there….

I happen to be one of them. Can I get reparations?.

He belonged to several oppressed minority groups, including Men Who Can’t Have Children and Americans With Wooden Teeth. He deserves great honor and respect for showing courage in the face of the harsh and restrictive social structures of his day which made it nearly impossible for people like him to excel.
