Protesters Cut Speaker’s Presentation Short

More news stories on Racial Preferences in Education

KETV (Omaha), February 29, 2008

OMAHA, Neb.—Former California Regent Ward Connerly spoke at the University of Nebraska-Omaha on Thursday night about his plan to abolish affirmative action in Omaha, and he was met by protesters.

Connerly is against using race and gender as factors in governmental hiring and college admissions. A group he heads helped pass initiatives in California, Washington and Michigan and would like to see a similar law in Nebraska.

“I don’t oppose all affirmative action. I oppose preferential treatment of anybody, whether that person is white or black or green or purple, male or female. I oppose my government taking our tax dollars and treating people differently,” Connerly said.

Connerly abruptly ended his appearance after repeated interruptions while taking questions.
