Illegal aliens are ineligible for driver’s licenses, Michigan’s attorney general said yesterday in an opinion that affects one of the few states that have been granting licenses to undocumented residents.
Attorney General Mike Cox’s opinion is legally binding on state agencies and officers unless reversed by the courts. It was not known how soon any changes would take place or what the opinion means for illegal aliens with currently valid licenses.
Michigan law prohibits the secretary of state from issuing a driver’s license to a nonresident. Mr. Cox, a Republican, said it would be inconsistent with federal law to regard an illegal alien as a permanent resident in Michigan.
The opinion supersedes a 1995 opinion by former Attorney General Frank Kelley, a Democrat.
Mr. Kelley suggested that denying a driver’s license to an illegal alien might violate the U.S. Constitution’s equal-protection clause, Mr. Cox said. But, Mr. Cox said, “There can be no doubt that a rational basis exists for denying driver’s licenses to illegal aliens.”

Whether illegal aliens should get licenses has become a major political issue. Earlier this year, New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer, a Democrat, proposed to give driver’s licenses to illegal aliens, but he ended up withdrawing that plan after intense opposition.
Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Washington currently do not require drivers to prove legal status in order to obtain a license.

If I was, say, to commit and be caught for an illegal act in this country, the government, whether local, state, or federal, would prosecute me to the fullest extent of the law. Isn’t that a given? So what about the word ‘illegal’ doesn’t our local, state and federal government understand?
Has the church, whether Catholic, Protestant, Mormon, or whatever, totally forgotten about breaking the laws, too? Isn’t it a sin to not ‘obey the laws of the land’?
It is just ironic that all the ‘pro-illegal’ rhetoric, both on the conservative and liberal sides, contain some sort of mention about the rights of these aliens as ‘human beings’; what about the rights of the people that have been here all along, following the rules, and making this a (once) great country?
The truth of the matter is this: our leaders, political AND religious, have spread themselves too thin trying to appeal to too many different groups, all in the quest of the almighty dollar, power, and glory. Add to that their social isolation from the genuine citizen who works 40+ hours a week and pays the taxes and tithes to support, well, EVERYTHING (yes, even the churches). They don’t care that our country is being overrun by criminals and unskilled and uneducated, because we are still paying for everything, so it doesn’t affect the leaders AT ALL.
I guess it will take close-up, personal experience with a drunk, unlicensed, driving-down-the-wrong-side-of-the-road, homicidal illegal before they sit up and take notice. Really pathetic, isn’t it, that the ‘elite’ of this ‘democratic’ country have to die, before anything positive is done.

Giving licenses to illegals will make OUR roads safer? Duh, how? The MAJORITY of DUI accidents are caused by Hispanics! Remember that Virginian “highway of death” we read about — look it up in the AmRen archives.
Then again, Hispanics are so dull-minded and stupid they think traffic laws are only meant to be obeyed by Anglos. Take the Mexican trash for example. The Mexicans busily trashing what was once a fine park near where I live. The damned Mexicans break every regulation on every weekend — because they feel those laws don’t apply to Mexican park users.
You want to make our highways safer, MAKE EVERY HISPANIC DRIVER SHOW BONA FIDE PROOF OF INSURANCE, BUT FIRST GET RID OF ALL ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT DRIVERS! They’ll buy a rolling wreck for a few dollars that probably would never pass inspection, drive it without insurance. Then when they get into a serious wreck, they’ll abandon the car and run off, leaving their victims to deal with the carnage they caused.

You want safer highways? START BY RIDDING OUR COUNTRY OF ILLEGAL MEXIAN IMMIGRANTS!
