Brownback to Pitch Proposal Apologizing for Slavery

Jenn Abelson, Boston Globe, October 16, 2007

Senator Sam Brownback, a Republican trying to inject new life into his beleaguered presidential campaign, plans to offer a resolution this week for Congress to apologize for slavery and segregation.

Brownback, of Kansas, told The Boston Globe’s editorial board yesterday he will join an unnamed Democrat in sponsoring the proposal. He said he expects a tough fight on the resolution, even though it will not include any call for reparations.

Brownback, in a wide-ranging interview yesterday, conceded that his campaign has languished since finishing a disappointing third in August in the Ames straw poll in Iowa. The 51-year-old Kansas senator remains in the trailing group of Republicans in the polls and in fund-raising, and says he will drop out of the race unless he places in the top four in the first-in-the-nation caucuses in Iowa.

Brownback, an outspoken opponent of abortion, embryonic stem-cell research, and same-sex marriage, has tried to court the social conservative base of the Republican Party. But conservatives have yet to unite behind a candidate, and some evangelical leaders have suggested supporting a third-party candidate.

Brownback’s bipartisan gambit may be a way to attract some Democrats and independents, said Blease Graham, a political science professor at the University of South Carolina.

Mychal Massie, chairman of the National Leadership Network of Black Conservatives-Project 21, a think tank in Washington D.C., criticized Brownback’s plans for a slavery apology resolution as “absurd and ridiculous.” Project 21 does not endorse presidential candidates, but Massie said he personally is backing Republican presidential hopeful Duncan Hunter.

“Brownback finds himself in a failing campaign with no hope under the sun of being elected and he is reaching out and exploiting blacks and using them to try and get a few votes,” Massie said. “It’s not going to work.”

{snip}

Brownback also praised Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Democrat of Massachusetts, for helping lead the push for the immigration bill.

Brownback is now officially history, and a minor footnote at that-be it ever so for race traitors! Now, let’s wait for the campaign of his fellow-traveller in theocon liberalism-Huckleberry Huckabee- to implode!

The word “backward” as applied to people and cultures denotes those who spend more time and energy obsessing over the distant changeless past than they do preparing for the dynamic unfolding future and therefore this shameless idiot panderer is certainly “backward” and therefore unfit to govern anyone…

Does Senator Brownback have children or grandchildren?

They will reap the benefits of his policies.

His children and grandchildren will be victims of crime from the trash that he so passionately promotes.

All of the white people that had what it took to fight for the right way are unfortunately dead. The white traitors that are running things now will one day be hanging by the neck.

Brownback and his astoundingly stupid political strategy will soon thrust him into the political extinction he so richly deserves. Just another white fool who’s bought into the suicidal nostrums of liberalism. His worst enemy is looking back at him from the mirror.

Senator Brownback is a very confused man if he thinks that apologising for slavery will win him votes. Does he have some other agenda? Will he switch parties? That makes more sense than anything else that comes immediately to mind.

You don’t suppose this is symptomatic of why Brownback’s fund raising dried up, and he just withdrew from the Presidential race, do you?

AP is reporting Brownback is dropping out. Good Riddance. Now we just have to watch out for the other banner carrier of the Christian-Left, Huckabee.

“Oh…and do yourself a favor and research other ways people are enslaved (mentally, emotionally, financially) , and then look at yourself.”

No one here is in need of a lecture from you about slavery or anything else.

Does this Republitwit think publically grovelling will make conservatives want to vote for him?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21359819/

According to this he is going to drop out this Friday. I’m kinda disapointed one less neo con to divide up the votes. He did this campaign for nothing but to raise money to run for governor of Kansas. It also helps to boost speaking fees on college campuses.

It says he’s going to endorse someone too. OOO… all 3 of his voters will know who to vote for now. Something tells me he won’t endorse Ron Paul. It would probably hurt Ron more anyway.

Ron Paul is the only principled man in this race IMHO, the others seem to just be playing to the passions of people but don’t have principles. It’s either Ron Paul or Constitution Party in 2008.

The oaf is about to drop out of the race anyway.

Exile him from the white race. That mofo!

Let him try this, it will stimulate republican votes.

Slavery in the United States was started when it was a colony under the British. Like so many of the criminal enterprises in the world ( the opium trade, slave trade etc) the principal instigators were British. The first slaves (indentured servents) were white and mostly English who recruited primarily from debtors prisons.

The problem with these slaves was that they could flee and melt into the general populace. The British East India compnay had a better idea, send africans to the colonies as slaves, if they fled they would be unable to blend into the general population and would easy to catch and return to their owners.

I would like to point out that as recently as the first world war their was a great deal of anti-british sentiment in the US. A propaganda campaign was begun during and after World War One by the British and American polital classes to bring America back into the empire. This picked up additional momentum with the passage of the income tax and the establishment of the federal reserve bank.

The federal reserve bank is not part of the US government. It is a private bank and one of it’s major stockhoilders is and has been the Bank of England.

Well that’s it for his campaign then. Good Riddance. What kind of fool thinks that pandering to race baiters and the likes of Ted Kennedy is going to improve his chances with decent people?
Duncan Hunter is still my numero uno choice of the 2nd tier, he seems to be the only one with a chance. Tancredo might do better in ‘12 as he’ll have raised his profile somewhat.

Arc.

Well I for one THANK YOU for ending slavery white people! Now you have your thanks….from a black man who just happened to stumble upon this site. I REALLY appreciate the slavery end thing…okay?

Now THAT should make us all feel a little bit better!

I hope something helps folks to feel better here. I don’t understand where all this anger comes from. But work it out guys, work it out!
Oh…and do yourself a favor and research other ways people are enslaved (mentally, emotionally, financially) , and then look at yourself. It’s not too late to free yourself if you look at what is REALLY going on around you. But that takes not buying into the myth that a group of people who don’t even compose 12% of the population are the source of all problems that belie us internally. Its not blacks, not mexicans, not gays…but it is SO easy to scare you into thinking that way.

Look at YOURSELVES people…as one from the “Church of Jesus Christ Christian” should be focusing on…himself, instead of lashing out at others and spreading information about which you have no idea. To say that there are no American Blacks in Africa working against slavery, hunger, economic exploitation and many other causes is ludicrous… Please, ask yourself miss why you are so angry? At what? WHY?

ONe day we’ll all get it. God bless.

Wow what a brilliant strategy, Brownbacks move here will go down in history as the turning point in his campaign. Years from now, as learned professors worldwide analyze President Brownbacks two term administration ” The Slavery Apology ” implemented in October of 2007 will be regarded as the most astonishing political comeback in 200 years.

Why should we appolgize for slavery? The blacks in
Africa, way back in history, have been slave traders of their own people for centuries.

Posted by Pattiann at 3:28 AM on October 18

Brownback has long been a MAJOR force behind the MASSIVE influx of bogus black African “refugees” into the U.S. and their targeted resettlement specifically in white middle class communities.

Posted by at 11:38 PM on October 17

Brownback is just another disgusting, pandering “theocon” race traitor who needs to be shown that the price for race treason is being cast the outer reaches of political oblivion.

“Senator Sam Brownback, a Republican trying to inject new life into his beleaguered presidential campaign, plans to offer a resolution this week for Congress to apologize for slavery and segregation.”

Instead of injecting new life into his campaign, I think this will be the final nail in the coffin of a completely irrelevant political run that should have ended months ago. Grassroots conservatives aren’t exactly clamoring for a public apology for slavery. Any person, black or white, who would actually support this idea is going to be voting for Obama anyway. This guy must have the worst political advisors in history

“Senator Sam Brownback, a Republican trying to inject new life into his beleaguered presidential campaign, plans to offer a resolution this week for Congress to apologize for slavery and segregation.”

“Inject new life into his campaign?” This is a mis-print isn’t it? I mean surely this radical leftist reporter doesn’t believe that such a move would help this corrupt politician does he? Is he really that naive or is he just stupid?

Making the rounds of even the high schools, polling, one would find kids laughing at the prospect that giving an apology from people who are guilty of nothing to people who have never been insulted, injured, or even affected, is just….plain….dumb. And only a moron would expect an apology.

Bottom line? Brownback is finished. Finis! Hasta La Vista, Baby.

the only two candidates that I would consider voting for are Ron Paul and/or Tom Tancredo. the republican party is purposefully destroying their chances, which guarntees clinton or osama the presidency. I will never again vote for a democrat or republican.

Posted by at 10:27 PM on October 17

Brownback is a joke. He cant be taken seriously, especially by Christians. He doesn’t stand a chance in his bid for the White House. What we see now is a desperate attempt to grasp at straws.

Posted by at 10:25 PM on October 17

Any Republican who supports anything Ted Kennedy does is surely no conservative. And Brownback has been a cheerleader for more immigration since his first days in the Senate. Its no wonder Brownback is doing so poorly. It’s because of his views on immigration. Apparently he is either too dumb to see that or too stubborn to admit it. And his apparent outreach to blacks probably won’t help him. I think many blacks are finally realizing they suffer perhpaps the most from the immigration of the largely unskilled.

Aside from the millions of gallons of blood spilt during the American Civil War, who wants to list all the programs and systems the U.S. government has created over the years to assist in corrective action for all the perceived injury done to blacks. It doesn’t help them and if they are given money, they will only demand more when that money is spent.

Posted by Whiteplight at 9:37 PM on October 17

Gee what a surprise another faux bible thumper in Brownback. I guess he hasn’t gotten to the story about the Tower of Babel where god was offended at people trying to out best him. He cursed the people dividing them into seperate groups by language and probably by racial makeup. Oh one of his biggest campaign contributors is Viacom which profits from pornography in our nation’s hotel rooms. I’m indifferent to Pornography, but shouldn’t christians question that?

Brownback’s idea of faith probably come from “Liberation Theology” which is pretty much communism ideas infiltrating the body politics. Especially in the Catholic and Islamic faiths.

Posted by at 8:55 PM on October 17

Any Republican who agrees with Ted Kennedy on immigration ought to leave his party. It’s bad enough that the Democrats are the illegal immigration party, we don’t need both parties to be that way.

When are Blacks going to publicly thank Whites for ending slavery and especially Northern Whites for fighting and dying to accomplish that. My White ancestors fought for the North, and yet not a single Black has ever thanked me for this. (Yes, we’ve all been told that the Civil War was not about slavery, but, for the average soldier, it was about slavery — as evinced by the role of the book Uncle Tom’s Cabin, John Brown, etc.).

American Blacks are total hypocrites, because they continue to complain loudly about Whites (who ended slavery over 150 years ago), while not caring one bit that slavery still exists in Africa. If Blacks really cared about slavery, they would be working to help the people who are at this very moment slaves. No — instead they prefer to complain about things that happened 150 years ago. Note that nearly all the people who are trying to end on-going slavery in Africa are White!

If blacks would stop complaining for 5 min and actually read a history book, they would realize that every race and people have been abused, raped, tortured, enslaved and murdered en mass, at some time in their history. Blacks are not special, other than their inflated sense of importance and victimhood. If Blacks want apologies, they should start by apologizing to the Pigmies and Bushmen, who they ethnically cleaned out of much of Africa.

Did the U.S. government ever own slaves, itself? If not, then it has no obligation to “apologize?” And it has nothing to do with slaves privately owned. Virtually all of slavery was from the private sector. All the federal government really did was allow states to allow it. Also, if an apology were warranted (and it’s not), those “deserving” of it are already dead. Al Sharpton knows slavery no more than someone who has grown up on a farm.

Will Brownback also admit that Black men held white female sex slaves (in America)? Doubt it!

Also, how many would expect this type of debate in the Muslim world, involving White labor and sex slaves? And this type of White sex slavery is still going on!

Posted by at 6:32 PM on October 17

1774…This is the year the US Congress met for the 1st time….clearly a date after the 1500’s when slavery was imported to this continent. My point? Why would this senator require Congress to officially apologize for slavery when slavery was started before Congress (or the OFFICIAL US Government for that matter) was officially a government body. Putting the cart before the horse, anyone? As for segregation, blame the civil war defeated south, you bum senator. Stop running for president and get back to the people’s work you were elected to do! This goes for Barrack and Hitllary as well!

Sam Brownback has always been a hack! He is disgusting. A Republican? No, he is not, just as Guiliani, McCain, Romney, Bush, Cheney, and all the rest! Traitors, one and all…
