The mother of a black elementary school student hopes educators in the Madison School District learn more about diversity after her daughter was told she couldn’t use the word “homey” in school.
Antonia Hull said the principal of Kennedy Elementary School apologized to her fifth- grade daughter after a teacher said she couldn’t say “homey” there.
“He called her in the office and said he was sorry she got in trouble for using the word ‘homey,’“ Hull said.

“This means we’ve got to continue our work with Glenn Singleton,” School Board member Johnny Winston Jr. said, referring to the racial relations consultant the district hired to help eliminate institutional racism.
