White Teachers Claim Reverse Discrimination

NORWALK, Conn.—A $5 million dollar lawsuit has been filed against the Norwalk school system by two white teachers who are claiming reverse discrimination.
Margaret Lorris, a sixth-grade language arts teacher, and Kelli Hibbard, a seventh-grade language arts teachers filed the federal civil rights lawsuit against the school district and a black middle school principal, claiming hey were passed over for promotions and transfers because of their race.
The teachers allege that the Board of Education, schools Superintendent Salvatore Corda and West Rocks Principal Lynne Moore violated their rights to free speech by failing to properly investigate their claims of repeated racial discrimination and harassment.
The teachers have also filed complaints with the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities claiming that Corda, Moore and Human Resources Director Fay Ruotolo did not sufficiently examine or process their grievances.
The lawsuit was filed June 24 in U.S. District Court in New Haven.
Both Corda and Moore said they could not comment.
